Overview

India’s first fully electric truck, Tata ULTRA T.7 Electric was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The truck comes with a modern design and a powertrain of zero-emission. It is designed to bear a payload range of 3692-4935 kgs. The Tata ULTRA T.7 Electric draws power from a 62.5 kWh battery pack, which generates a maximum power of 328 hp and a peak torque of up to 2800 Nm. With the help of a DC fast charger, the battery of this truck can be charged in a time period of two hours. The e-truck is available in three variants namely, Tata ULTRA T.7 Electric 3900/HSD, Tata ULTRA T.7 Electric 3550/CBC and Tata ULTRA T.7 Electric 3900/CLB. The truck is suspended over a set of parabolic springs with anti-roll bars in the front and at the rear, there are semi-elliptical leaf springs, which helps to distribute the load equally on each wheel.

Exterior

The gross vehicle weight of Tata ULTRA T.7 Electric has a range from 7490 Kg to 8750 Kg. The load-carrying capacity of the truck also varies from 3692 Kg to 4935 Kg. The unique and stylish narrow cabin offers the ultimate driving comfort without compromising with the safety precautions. The essential features of the truck are the same across the entire lineup. However, the vehicle gets altered dimensions of the load body and the wheelbase for each variant. The robust chassis frame, along with the sturdy wheelbase allows the truck to carry the maximum load per trip so that the owner can earn more profit. However, the overall length of the truck is measured as 6400 mm. The tubeless tyres of 235/75 R 17.5 size provide a tight grip on the ground so that the acceleration, as well as the braking performance of the truck, can be significant.

Performance

The power of the Tata Ultra T.7 Electric comes from a battery of 62.5 kWh capacity. It is designed to produce a maximum power of 328 hp and a massive 2800 Nm of peak torque. The battery can be full-charged in approximately two hours with the help of a DC fast charger. The vehicle can go for almost 100 km on a single charge which is the most recognizable feature of the truck. The automatic transmission duty is controlled with a single plate dry friction type clutch of 310mm dia. The maximum achievable speed of the truck is 80 km per hour with a gradeability of 26 percent.

Safety

As the safety of the Tata Ultra T.7 Electric is being considered, it fulfills all the requirements, including seat belts associated with the safety purpose. The primary brakes for both front and rear axles of the truck are air brakes. Though ABS (anti-locking braking system) is not present in the truck, there is a parking brake that keeps the truck at its rest position while loading and unloading the process is being accomplished. The suspensions of the vehicle also play an important role in the load distribution so that the stability of the truck can be better.

The Tata Ultra T.7 Electric is India’s first truck with the zero-emission feature which is operated entirely with electricity. It is specially produced for Indian roads.
