Tata Motors Flags Off Delivery Of Its Next-gen Tractors And Tippers For Tata Steel: Here Are Insights

Tata Motors's New Electric Trucks- Details Explained

Tata Motors, one of India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, has flagged off its next-generation, green-fuel-powered commercial vehicles to Tata Steel. The fleet, comprising Prima tractors, tippers, and the Ultra EV bus, is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and battery electric technologies. 

Flagged off by Tata Son's chairman, N Chandrasekaran, as part of the Tata group's founder's day celebrations in Jamshedpur, Tata claims that this initiative marks a significant milestone for the brand. The event was attended by T V Narendran, CEO and managing director, Tata Steel, and Girish Wagh, executive director, Tata Motors, along with their leadership teams.

T. V. Narendran, chief executive officer and managing director, Tata Steel, said, “This delivery marks another significant milestone in our long-standing partnership with Tata Motors. As leaders in our respective industries, Tata Steel and Tata Motors share a common vision for sustainability and innovation. 

“Together, we are committed to driving positive change and delivering eco-friendly solutions that not only benefit our businesses but also contribute to a greener tomorrow,” he added. 

Girish Wagh, executive director, Tata Motors, said, “Our green fleet of commercial vehicles will accelerate Tata Steel’s efforts towards making its supply chain carbon neutral. We have collaborated with them and their transportation partners to design holistic solutions for enhancing functionality, performance, connectivity and safety.

“Every aspect of these vehicles has been purposefully augmented to cater to varied duty cycles and special applications. We look forward to strengthening our historic partnership in our respective quests of reducing carbon footprint and achieving net-zero emissions by 2045,” he added. 

Insights: Tata Commercial Vehicles

The new fleet of Tata Motors' commercial vehicles is equipped with advanced safety features, including an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), electronic stability control, active traction control, and driver monitoring system, among others, to ensure safety and efficiency in operations.

The fleet includes the Tata Prima LNG range of trucks, including tippers (3530.K) and tractors (5530.S), designed for surface mining and long-haul commercial transportation. Additionally, Tata Steel will deploy the 28T EV Tipper (E28.K) and 46T EV Tractor (E46.S) to establish real-world performance benchmarks for electric vehicles in logistic movements.

Product Note: New Tata Trucks

Tata Prima E.46S:

The Tata Prima E.46S truck is designed for emission-free trucking in cement, ports, and steel industries. It is powered by a 453 kWh battery, offering an operating range of 310 km per charge. Equipped with a 360 kW traction motor providing a maximum torque of 2455 Nm and auto-shift transmission, this vehicle is ideal for construction and mining applications.

Tata Prima E.28K:

The Tata Prima E.28K features a 453 kWh battery that offers an operating range of 180 to 220 km, making it ideal for tipper applications. It is equipped with a 245 kW traction motor providing a maximum torque of 2950 Nm at 3000 rpm, along with an auto-shift transmission with PTO provision. This tipper is configured with an 18m3 box body, making it suitable for construction and mining applications.

Tata Prima 3530.K LNG:

The Tata Prima 3530.K LNG is powered by a Cummins 6.7-litre gas engine and a proven in-house 9-speed gearbox capable of generating 300 hp category power and 1100 Nm of torque. This LNG tipper is offered with a 600L (2 x 300L) LNG tank for continuous operations. The vehicle is equipped with safety features such as a driver monitoring system, reverse parking camera and hill start assist.

What We Think?

Tata Motors is developing and manufacturing mobility solutions powered by alternate fuel technology, including battery electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen internal combustion engine, and hydrogen fuel cell technology to enhance fleet operations.
