The 12-tyre, 4-axle, 35T gross vehicle weight category is one of the top heavy-duty segments of the industry. Tata Motors has the most extensive range of cargo and tipper trucks in this vital segment, with 5-engines options catering to several key applications. We get into details understanding the products and what they offer.
Despite intense competition and aggressive rivals, Tata Motors has successfully protected its leadership in India's medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment with sold grip. The company still holds nearly half the market share in this most coveted Indian heavy commercial vehicle industry segment. The firm continues to sway truck buyers, among other things, its extensive range of products in every category addressing all the needs and applications with a variety of engines.
This is further complemented by superior products offering with in-house research and development and a substantially wider, deeper service network across India's length and breadth to support the customer to run his truck most productively by ensuring he keeps earning higher revenues. In the last few years, rival OEMs have taken aggressive steps in taking on the market leader with equally compelling products and networks, yet there is a long way for a serious challenge to Tata's leadership. However, growing competition and more products means a stronger alternative to customers to try some newer products.
The heavy-duty segment in India starts from the 28T gross vehicle weight extending to 35T, 42T, 48T, and 55T inclusive of rigid, tipper and tractor-trailers. Tata Motors has the widest offering in all these categories with multiple products with different engine sizes. In the 35000 gross vehicle weight, 12-tyre, 4 axle truck, the company has as many as eight products in cargo and tipper segment with five engines types covering different tonnages.
The 12 tyre cargo segment Tata Motors offers four products with two engine sizes, the LPT 3518 Cowl and Signa 3518.T, as the name suggests both the trucks are in the 180hp engine sizes with cowl and Signa cabin varianst. Similarly, the LPT 3521 Cowl and Signa 3521.T in the slightly higher 210hp engine, cowl, and cabin variant.
LPT 3518 Cowl
This is one of the most popular product in this category; it gets the tried and tested 180hp of engine with cowl body. A lot of customers in the long haul segment typically prefer a cowl and chassis to built the body privately. LPT 3518 cowl is targeted to those price-sensitive customers who don't need a company built body. This truck offers superior powertrain, higher mileage and greater load carrying capabilities to enhance the customer business.
As the market slowly modernising, a customer segment is looking for a fully-built truck with a factory fitted cabin. There Signa 3518.T comes in with a vigorously designed, safer cabin with ample space inside with a superior in-cabin experience. The Signa cabin is highly improved with ergonomics and greater noise vibration and harshness levels. The Signa cabins get AC and forced ventilation options, ensuring the driver feels fresh and operate the truck more hours fatigue free over long hauls. The more the truck runs, the higher productivity and profit to the customers.
LPT 3521 COWL
Another variant int he 12-tyre category with the identical specification, aggregates and features. The only major difference is the slightly higher power engine. Instead of the 180hp, LPT 3521 Cowl gets the 210hp engine for customers who want a more powerful truck for certain applications. The rest of the offering is nearly the same with minor changes.
Likewise, the Signa 3521.T is a haulage truck with a factory-fitted modern and safety Signa Cabin in the 210hp engine options. This cabin is highly comfortable, ensuring the driver stays fresh and drives the truck for longer hours without any fatigue. In the haulage segment, the most critical aspect of customer measure is truck productivity. The more truck stays running, the more profitable the truck fleet and most efficient transport business. Hence, reliable, powerful, and comfortable characteristics make a truck truly successful.
Apart from the haulage segment, the 12-tyre trucks are also available in the tipper applications. Tippers are also an important and growing segment in the heavy-duty segment as demand for infrastructure, construction, and mining segments remain buoyant despite sporadic ups and downs in the haulage segment, which largely depends on the overall economy. In contrast, the tripper demand is driven by infrastructure projects and mining licenses remain fairly consistent. Thus, truck OEMs have been keen on this segment for steady demand.
Again Tata Motors has equally exciting product offerings in the tipper category addressing almost all the application types and customer needs. Tata Motors has two platforms the LPT and world-class Prima tipper in 230hp and 250 hp engines and Prima in 250hp and 300hp options.
The Tata Signa 3523.TK is a highly versatile tipper operating in the surface transport of construction aggregates, coal, ore, and minerals. The 35T tipper has been designed and built to maximize productivity and is equipped with plenty of features for comfortable use and the highest return on investments.
This massive tipper is powered by Cummins 230 hp ISBe 5.6L BS6 compliant engine. This is further complemented by optimized drivetrain, strong and durable aggregates, and rugged tipping body.
The TATA Signa 3525.K/.TK is a high-performance and versatile tipper used for surface transport of aggregates, road construction activities, transport of earth & soil, and coal mining applications. This tipper shared most characteristics with 3523.TK expects the higher power 250hp engine for certain application which need more powerful tipper.
The TATA Prima is truly a global truck range, the Prima 3525.K/.TK tipper is a high-performance and versatile tipper host of infrastructure, mining, and construction applications. It comes with a 250hp powerful engine with the promise of segment-best productivity and enormous operating efficiency in the most demanding and challenging operating conditions.
The Prima 3530.K is the flagship tipper of the Tata Construct portfolio. It comes with the key elements of high performance, versatile and heavy-duty workhorse, which is used in quarry to crusher applications, coal - pit to the surface application, earthwork and irrigation applications, ore, and mineral application in OB removal, among others.
This tipper is designed and built for versatility, high productivity, and fitted with the strong 300hp Cummins ISBe 6.7L BS6 engine. The powertrain is complemented by a strong set of aggregates, a comfortable cabin, and a strong and durable tipping body.
Some of the most modern features on this tipper include fuel economy switch, engine brake, and hill start assist. The contemporary aggregates like the heavy-duty driveline, hub reduction rear axle, fully reinforced heavy-duty chassis frame, and long-lasting NGT brakes provide superior performance, higher fuel economy, and higher productivity and lower maintenance costs. Ensuring highest productivity and greater revenue potential.
The 12-tyre truck segment is one of the most dynamic categories as these trucks are used in many different applications and humungous cargo types. These trucks are gaining a lot of traction over the last few years, as more and more fleet-operators opting for higher tonnage trucks for better-operating economies. Tata Motors is well-position in this crucial segment with the widest product offering with the potential to stay ahead of the competition.
