Additionally, the vehicle gets two drive modes for enhancing fuel efficiency and overall performance – the ‘Power’ and ‘Eco’ mode. Performance

As mentioned before, the Mahindra Supro Profit Truck Excel is powered by a 909 cc, direct injection diesel engine. This engine is capable of producing 26 hp at 3600 rpm and 55 Nm at around 1800-2200 rpm on paper. Although on paper, these engine power figures have been mentioned to be sufficient, testing it without load proved it to be “somewhat different”. 

The reason why we have emphasised “somewhat different” is because the vehicle performs well only in certain driving conditions. For example, the torque production is quite decent in highway conditions without cargo onboard. The vehicle can also perform overtakes, but, the limited availability of power (in terms of horsepower) is evident in real-world conditions. This is because it takes time for the engine to help build up speed since the engine is tuned for high torque production and the short gearing of the first 3 gears.  

Nonetheless, the vehicle comes equipped with two drive modes- ‘Power’ and ‘Eco’. As the name suggests, in its power mode, the vehicle offers ample torque necessary to easily climb inclines. However, the ‘Eco’ mode which is although meant to enhance fuel efficiency, does not promise the power necessary for performing overtakes. The engine power simmers down and becomes sluggish but with the shifting to lower gear like second and first, the vehicle manages to offer the power necessary to climb inclines.

Moreover, it can be said that Eco mode is optimal for highway driving conditions to improve fuel efficiency and offer adequate power and torque for hauling smaller goods and Power mode is for carrying bigger cargo effortlessly. Besides the powertrain performance, it must also be pointed out that the clutch is light. This can lower drive fatigue. Also, the pedals are positioned ergonomically for effortless driveability. 

Ride and Handling

The ride and handling can be one of the key USPs of the Supro Excel because the vehicle offers good ride comfort and stability. Even on bad sections of roads, the vehicle performs well and thanks to the integration of an anti-roll bar, the body roll is evidently less even while taking sharp turns. 

The 13-inch wheels also do justice because the truck can deliver stability and iron out bumps and undulations pretty well. Taking U-turns is also easy thanks to a shorter turning radius. However, having no power steering means that some amount of effort is required to turn the wheel completely to one side or the other at lower speeds. 

Moreover, at higher speeds, the steering offers enough heft to it and becomes smooth but at lower speeds, it becomes a bit tight for the driver to turn.  

Exterior 

Coming to the styling part, the Supro Excel borrows much of the design from its elder sibling – the Supro Profit Truck Maxi. However, it has its own unique traits and characteristics which make it stand out differently. This includes the large bottom grille integrated with the bumper with a kink beneath that showcases the rest of the grille and Mahindra’s signature front grille located just above the bumper section. 

Besides this, the fascia also incorporates sleek wraparound headlights with a decent throw.

Moving on to the sides, the Supro Profit Truck Excel has stylish decals which add to its uniqueness. Other elements include the integration of the battery on the right side with a provision for locking and a diesel fuel cap too. 

At the rear, there is not much to boast about except for the fact that just beneath the tailgate comes the rear parking sensors and the tailgate integrates the Mahindra logo. Moreover, what caught our attention was the fact that Mahindra does not offer a rear crash guard which could have enhanced the safety appeal. However, the plus side of it is that customers can customise the crash bar according to their liking. 

Additionally, the vehicle also comes in three different colour schemes so that operators can choose one and resonate with it as their identity. These include the “Regal Blue”, “Diamond White” and “Crimson Red” colours. 

Interior

Inside the cabin, there are minimal elements which contribute to driver performance. However, the cabin does integrate comfortable seats, with 3-point ELR seatbelts and a 12 V smartphone charging port for driver comfort. On the floorboard, there are bottle holders and on the dashboard, there is a headlight leveller switch, a drive mode switch and a digital instrument cluster. There is also storage space on the dashboard for added convenience. 

What misses out is the fact that the Supro Profit Truck Excel does not come with headrests, air conditioning or a music system. Moreover, there are not many other features to specify. Mahindra could have offered some of these features that miss out which play a crucial role in enhancing driver productivity. 

Safety

To ensure easy accessibility and more importantly safety, the vehicle hides the brake fluid and wiper washer fluid tanks on the sides – beneath the dashboard. This ensures that the tanks and their lines are not exposed to rodents which usually chews its way through. The engine is also located beneath the seats, but with insulation, so that the heat does not enter the cabin space. 

Additionally, the cabin has a rear sliding window to take a peek at the load onboard and for reversing safely. Two Reverse parking sensors are also added to ensure the safety of both the occupant and cargo onboard.
