Tata to Launch Prima Models in Multi-Axle Truck Version

Tata Motors will be launching the Prima range in the multi-axle truck version in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017. At present, the model range is only available in the tractor and tipper versions, and the acclaimed model is expected to garner a strong market share on the backdrop of rising popularity.

Just recently, Tata conducted its annual T1 Prima Racing event, which had attracted great attention and buzz. The third season of the event, the racing championship is the first ever truck racing event in India, and had served as a cornerstone to boost the Prima's popularity domestically.

“Today, we don't have to push the sales of Prima anymore. We have seen a positive impact of the race on the sales of Prima which now is doubling every year,” said Ravi Pisharody, the executive director for the commercial vehicles division of the company. At present, the model has a decent 15 percent share of the market, and the company foresees a bolstered position in the future. Tata Motors is currently experiencing a greatly positive market response, following a resurgent economic condition in the M&HCV segment.

In this area, the brand had sold 125,586 units between April 2015 and February 2016, yielding a growth of nearly 27 percent. Furthermore, rising infrastructure activity and stimulated economic activity is also expected to drive the company's sales condition forward. Mr Pisharody believes that all of this together would push the Prima's market standing ahead.

“The 49 tonne tractor trailers is growing rapidly and there is huge demand for it. Till last quarter, we were only producing 200-300 units a month, which has already gone up to 500,” he commented.
