Comparison: Ashok Leyland Ecomet 1015HE and BharatBenz 1015R

At present, the Indian truck market, like the rest of the automotive industry and the economy as a whole making a transition through difficult times. Yet, the long-term growth story of India remains intact, and the trucking industry is a direct contributor to economic growth.

All the leading players like Tata Motors, Eicher, Ashok Leyland, BharatBenz, and Mahindra & Mahindra have highly impressive product offerings. Yet, every OEM sees an equal opportunity to grow in this segment as the total industry volumes have recorded sustained growth.

Engine

BharatBenz 1015R the starting point of the company in the India truck portfolio. This truck is fitted with a 4D34i engine, producing 110 kW of power at a maximum torque of 460 Nm tuned to the 6-speed gearbox. Similarly, Ashok Leyland’s Ecomet is a proven ICV platform now become even better in the new BS6 avatar. Ecomet 1015HE gets the all-new H series, 150 HP engine producing 450 Nm of torque fitted with a 6-speed overdrive gearbox, and, Ashok Leyland’s indigenous iEGR+SCR technology with a promise of superior fuel efficiency.   

Axle, Suspension & Transmission

The BharatBenz 1015R comes with a rear axle from top brand Dana S, both the front and rear suspensions are multi-leaf spring, and the anti-roll bar for better control of the vehicle during higher speed is optional. Both the brakes are drum, and the service brakes are pneumatic, foot-operated in dual-line; the parking brake is spring actuated with a handbrake valve. The steering is hydraulic power-assisted, and this truck has a day cabin.

The Ecomet 1015HE gets a high-quality rear axle in the fully floating single speed, hypoid, and the front axles forged I section in the reverse Elliot type. The suspensions are semi-elliptic multi-leaf, and dual-line air brakes, the parking brakes are on the rear wheel only and has the 330 single diameter plate dry-type clutch. Ecomet gets integral power-steering to enhance the performance with easy driving; further, the Ecomet comes with the tubeless tyre and lube for the life propeller shaft.   

Truck Dimensions 

The 1015R is available in four wheelbases: 3360 3760 4250 4800 mm, the loading spans 14.6, 17, 20, and 21ft, the ground clearance is 205 mm. Like all its portfolio, the 1015R is available in a fully built cabin with chassis configuration. The 1015R comes with four different fuel tank options starting from 171/160L to 215/200L, the Adblue tank comes in 34/33L, and the battery is 75Ah and 24V.  

Ecomet 1015 HE has three wheelbases of 3250, 3950, and 4200 mm. It comes in day cabin with chassis, full-side deck, downside deck, and high side deck variants in 14, 17, and 19 ft cargo bodies. The fuel tank is 185-liter options and Adblue tank with 24L capacities, and the electrical on this truck is 12 V, 120 AH, Alternator – 90 A.
