SML Isuzu Cosmo BS-IV Truck- Expert Review
Expert Review - SML Isuzu Cosmo BS IV
SML Isuzu Cosmo BS IV is one of the finest range of trucks produced by the company in the light weight segment. Kept quite close to Cosmo BS-III’s standards, it is powered by the company's 3455cc inline 4-Cylinder Common Rail SLT4 & Numeral diesel engine. The truck falls in the category of multi-purpose LCV with a decent load carrying capacity for transporting general utility goods, construction material and even light machine parts to be used in different industries.
The truck comes with many easy-to-handle drive genetics which help the drivers to stay safe, drive fatigue-free while soothing the clogged intra-city drives. Some of the highlights include newly added features like fuel-efficient drive lines, cargo box lights, spray suspension system, enlarged rear view mirror and head lamp leveling device besides other basic performance level features.
Engine & Displacement: SLT4 & Numeral In line 4-Cylinder Common Rail Direct Injection, 3,455 cc
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW): 6,440 kg
Wheelbase & Turning Radius: 3,335 mm, 3,200 mm
Engine and Performance
SML Isuzu Cosmo BS IV is available with SLT4 & Numeral In line 4-Cylinder Common Rail Direct Injection diesel engine, with advanced emission standards following BS IV norms. The vehicle is capable of producing a maximum power of 75 Kw @2800 rpm at a max torque of 296Nm @ 1500 rpm. Well, these numbers are definitely good for an LCV of this strength. The gearbox has Synchromesh manual transmission system with 5-speed gears and single plate diaphragm type clutch with 260 mm diameter, making it effectively carry the load through intended city routes.
Vehicle Built and Load Capacity
The max payload this truck can carry is 3,640 kg which is quite acceptable for minor transportation needs it is meant for. As compared to the BS-III truck’s dimensions it comes with better height of 1030 mm while the length and width are same at 3740 mm and 2080 mm respectively. It makes it a better load holder with more scope of putting in different types and sizes of weights at a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 5740 kg. Further, with the front axle weight of 2,580 kg and rear axle weight of 3,160 kg it keeps good with different weight types effectively addressing different applications it is meant to cater.
Handling and Suspension
The truck comes equipped with Semi-Elliptical type Multi Leaf Spring suspension system to offer a jerk-free experience on typically potholed Indian roads. This allows minimum damage to the goods while transporting besides offering you a comfortable driving experience. Well, if we consider the overall handling, scope of improvement is there which can be met off by adding additional shock absorbers on the axles. There are both mechanical and power steering options available in the vehicle. Further on the good side, the 5.5 meters of turning diameter allows the driver to get all the ease while moving the truck around.
Braking and Safety
With hydraulic assisted vacuum brakes offering all the needed resistance you can go for speedy drives with load, without worrying about the braking safety. However, the vehicle lacks features like ABS and EBD which make it lose a bit on safety on tougher terrains, making it a non-fit for remote trips and difficult roads. Also, other than a few basic safety features there is not much to be talked about safety in the vehicle.
Design and Comfort
SML Isuzu Cosmo BS IV is quite regular in terms of overall design with everything in its usual place and no extra innovation. Similarly in terms of looks there is nothing much to talk about and it is all the same as Cosmo BS III with a little tweaks here and there. It doesn’t have many comfort features except for a few of them like standard comfortable seats providing easy-to-sit-and-drive posture, good leg space and easy access to controls on the dashboard. A few further efforts include enlarged rear view mirror to offer the maximum back side view and marginally enhanced design for the lamps and frontal gestures.
