Jan 30, 2019: The HINO 500 FL8J is a very powerful truck that comes with huge dimensions and quality features. It is powered by a 6-cylinder, 7.7-litre turbocharged engine that can churn out a maximum power of 209 bhp at 2,500 rpm and a peak torque of 661 Nm at 1,500 rpm. The produced power is sent down to the wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The braking duties in the HINO 500 FL8J is handled by air brakes along with the addition of ABS. As for the suspension, there are semi-elliptic leaf springs at the front and inverted semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear.

The Japanese Joint Venture between Hino Motors and Marubeni Corporation has entered in the Indian truck market under its vision of getting a share in the world’s growing economies. It has only 2 mid-sized truck series for now and Hino 500 FL8J is one of them with aspiring power, performance and features. Powering the 500 FL8J series is a 7.6 Litre Turbocharger Intercooled 6-Cylinder in-line direct injection engine that can produce 209 hp power and 661 Nm torque.

Mated to a 6-speed gear transmission system, it could hit the top speed of 88 km/h with decent gradeability of 30%. The suspensions are very popular semi-elliptical leaf springs with shock absorbers on both front and the rear side. It also has very regular, but effective Reverse Elliot I beam front axle and Fully Floating Single Reduction Single Speed Hypoid Gear rear axle.

As Japanese are though to be concerned about the safety a lot, the Hino has borne the legacy too and so this 500 FL8J has Full Air Dual Circuit S Cam type service brakes, spring parking brakes, electric-pneumatic exhaust brake and Antilock Braking System (ABS) in it. Coming to the load capacities, it could lift up to 25,000 kg Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) including 6,725 kg.

The fuel injection pump available in it is electronic controlled common-rail type, which is exclusive in India and also has Dry Single Plate with Damper Springs clutch having380 mm diameter to support the smooth transmission functionality.

Performance wise, it hits the top speed of 88 km/h with the 6-speed (6F + 1R) gear transmission system and has gradeability of 30%, which I guess is enough to climb up any roads in India.

Load Carrying Capacity and Applications

The weight carrying capacity of the trucks is the most important aspect to decide whether to buy it or not. Well, with 6,725 kg kerb weight in total Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 25,000 kg ensures that it carries 18,275 kg of stuff. The front and rear axle weights are 6,000 kg and 19,000 kg respectively, once the truck is fully loaded up.
