The performance quotient of it sits at 40.3% Gradeability in crawler gear and 98 km/h top speed while mated with 9-Speed ZF Manual Transmission Gearbox system. Its 381 mm Diameter Single Dry Plate Clutch with damper spring ensures the smooth gear-shifting and Euro III emission standards make it suitable for environment.
Vehicle Built and Load Capacity
Hino 500 FM8J is 7,100 mm long, 2,470 mm wide and 3,420 mm high in terms of dimensions with 3,590 mm 1st wheelbase and 1,300 2nd wheelbase. The overall wheelbase according to Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) is, however, 4,240 mm. Its ground clearance of 260 mm is quite enough to run over all speed breakers and pothole affected roads.
Coming to the load carrying capacity, both Rock and Box Body options of 14 and 16 Cubic Meter (CuM) has same 25,000 kg Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) capacity. It is distributed as 6,000 kg on front and rest 19,000 kg on the rear axle. While unladen, the kerb weight of 500 FM8J is 11,750 kg, distributed over front and rear axle as 5,050 kg and 6,700 kg. The Transit Mixer option has 6 CuM size drum.
Handling and Suspension
Toyota has always been known for keeping the highest standards while it comes to handling and drive comfort of cars. Well, Hino seems to follow the same path for trucks as 500 FM8J has been fitted with best-in-class Integral Power Steering on Tilt and Telescopic Steering Column with Locking Device and Recirculating Ball to help move the truck with utmost ease.
Talking about the suspensions, there are Semi-Elliptical Leaf Springs at both ends, though Inverted at rear with torque rods and shock absorbers at the front. Along with this, its Reverse Elliot I Beam front axle and Fully Floating Single Reduction Single Speed Hypoid with Tandem Drive and Inter Axle Differential Lock rear axle also make sure that the driver and co-passenger don’t feel a jerk on uneven roads.
Braking and Safety
500 FM8J is equipped with Full Air Dual Circuit S Cam Type Leading and Trailing Shoes for Front and Rear service brakes, front and rear axle Spring parking brakes and Electric-Pneumatic exhaust bakes to allow the driver to stop the truck at any instance of time or at any speed.
Ensuring further safety, there is Antilock Braking System (ABS), seat belts, fog lights, high tensile all-steel constructed cabin with torsion bar tilt and high quality 11.00R20 - 16 PR tyres.
Design and Comfort
It is one of the few trucks available in India that are equipped with many comfort features like tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge, air pressure gauge, reclining driver seats, electric windshield wipers, vinyl type floor mats, A/C, speaker, cab pockets, cup holders, cigarette lighter and many warning buzzers. To make it even better, the lamp section has also been taken care of with semi-sealed halogen type head lamps and ladder shaped channel section side rails.
