Tata Ace Mega XL

Mar 2, 2020: Tata Ace Mega XL is the newest addition to Tata’s range of mini trucks. Based on the Tata Ace Mega model, the XL version comes with an extended cargo box of 2.45m in length. Enhanced durability in the vehicle is ensured by the tubeless tires in this offering. The latest news around the model is its added safety feature that includes ABS Disc brakes and seatbelts along with the latest navigation system for added convenience. 

The lineup of the XL gets Tata Ace Mega XL 2250/CAB and Tata Ace Mega XL 2250/CAB/BS-IV. Driving the Mega XL is a 798cc dual cylinder four-stroke engine Direct Injection Common Rail turbocharged engine. The four-stroke engine produces a power output of 40.2hp with a peak torque of 100Nm. The engine maxes out at 80 km per hour.

The Tata Ace Mega XL is one of the best small commercial vehicles in India. It was launched in 2017 along with its other two siblings. The vehicle is the perfect option to fulfil the demands of the customers who need to transport heavy loads and cover long distances.

Engine and Performance

The Tata Ace Mega XL is one of the high-grade models among the Ace models and is equipped with a host of quality features. It is powered by a Dicor TCIC, two-cylinder, BS-IV compliant engine. The 0.8-litre mill is capable of pumping out up to 40 hp of power and the peak torque is 100 Nm, The maximum power and torque comes at 3,750 rpm, while the peak torque comes at a range of 1,700 to 2,000 rpm.

The power is sent to the wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox along with the help of a 190 mm single plate dry clutch.

The vehicle can hit a top speed of 80 kmph and can return a mileage of 19.4 kmpl. It comes with a 4x2 axle configuration, which can delivers quality performance on normal city roads. It has an overall driving range of around 550 kilometres.

Vehicle Built and Load Capacity

The Tata Ace Mega XL is pretty much similar to its sibling, the Tata Ace and is one of the big names in this segment. It comes with a deck body and a day cabin is built on the chassis.

The truck is 4,075 mm in length, 1,430 mm in width and 300 mm in height. It comes with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 2.1 tonnes. This includes 1.07 tonnes of kerb weight, while the payload capacity is 1.03 tonnes. The small truck has a wheelbase of 2,250 mm and carries a fuel tank of 30 litres.

Handling and Suspension

The handling of the Tata Ace Mega XL is quite good. It offers an amazing turning radius in the segment of 4.75 mm and the driver will not face any major issues while taking a U-turn even in cities or short roads. The power steering and the excellent throttle response add to the long convenience features list.

The truck gets an impressive ground clearance of 175 mm, which makes sure that the vehicle will not be damaged while driving in a bit off-road conditions. The Tata Ace Mega XL comes with disc brakes at the front rigid axle, while at the rear hybrid axle, there are 254 mm drum brakes. Though the absence of the ABS might be an issue, the brakes are quite capable of stopping this pick up at ease.

Speaking of its safety features, the D+1 cabin has seat belt for both the driver and the co-driver. Moreover, parking brakes are also provided for the driver’s convenience. This allow driver to park the vehicle in a bit of inclined area or on bridges.

Design and Comfort

As mentioned before, the Tata Ace Mega XL comes with an excellent design along with long wheelbase. Also, there is a day cabin placed upon the chassis.
