MAHINDRA BOLERO MAXI TRUCK - EXPERT REVIEW
Overview
Mahindra & Mahindra leads India in the pickup truck segment. There is no doubt in the fact that pickup trucks from Mahindra are counted amongst the most selling commercial vehicles in the country. Low maintenance cost, above par mileage and best in class payload capacity separate the complete range of pickup vehicles designed on the Mahindra Bolero platform, from other CVs in India.
The Bolero Maxi Truck from Mahindra, staying true to the legacy created by other Mahindra pickups does not fail to impress. Maxi Truck is powered by a 2523 cc, MDI 3200TC L engine that has the capability of producing a maximum power of 62 bhp. It offers a maximum payload of 1000 kgs and comes with a manual power steering as a standard feature.
Specs
Engine - MDI 3200 TC L
GVW and Payload Capacity – 2450 kg and 1000 kg
Wheelbase - 3150 mm
Engine and Performance
The Mahindra Bolero Maxi Truck is available with a MDI 3200TC L engine. The engine generates power from a 2523 cc, four cylinder model. Bolero Maxi Truck, just like other Bolero pickups does not feel under powered at all. It generates enough torque to handle 1000 kg as payload. In fact there is not much difference in Bolero Maxi Truck and other Bolero pickup variants. The incorporated engine produces a maximum power of 62 bhp at 3200 rpm and maximum torque of 182.5 Nm at 1500-1800 rpm.
Vehicle Built and Load Capacity
The Bolero Maxi Truck is offered with good body strength and class one built qualities. This pickup does check mark all the standards set by Mahindra for its range of commercial vehicles.
The built, on first impression, looks extremely durable, crafted to last in toughest of the conditions. The loading deck looks solid, capable of withstanding all types of loads till the 1000 kg payload limit. The front bumper seems to add rigidity to overall built quality of the vehicle.
Handling and Suspension
Mahindra Bolero Maxi Truck is available with a manual steering, however, the CV manufacturer also provides consumers with the choice of power steering as an optional fitment. We tried both the variants and the one with power steering definitely felt a lot lighter. Though, the manual steering does require extra power to be handled, it still is not that bad either.
Hydraulic double acting shock absorbers carry the jobs assigned in a good manner. The pickup truck, with less load feels bumpier than with more load.
Braking and Safety
This Bolero pickup variant depends on disc brakes at front and drum brakes at rear for its stopping capabilities. These brakes are not bad for a pickup truck. One can easily feel the power these brakes offer even at speeds of 60 km/hr. But braking does lag with higher payloads.
Anti-roll bar at front, strong body, standard seat belts are some of the features Mahindra offers from the safety perspective. Not much can be explained about safety, as Bolero Maxi Truck is endowed with standard safety measures only.
Design and Comfort
Sabre-tooth front grill, beautiful headlamps, and an all Bolero SUV like front does help in making Maxi Truck stand out in the crowd. The loading deck in the truck is similar to other Bolero pick-ups and does not boost of any special design features.
Standard seats, glove box and an impressive driving meter add to the overall feel this pickup delivers. Seats feel fair while the suspension, in terms of comfort, can certainly be bettered.
