The BharatBenz 4228R is a heavy-duty tanker with a 42-tonne gross vehicle weight (GVW). It is designed to transport gas and liquid materials like chemicals, petroleum, bitumen, and water. The vehicle is available in 3 loading span options – 27.6 feet, 30 feet, and 31.3 feet – for catering to cement transportation, port movement, market load haulage, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).

 

Further, its body maintains 222 mm ground clearance to make it suitable for off-road haulage without any damage to its undercarriage. The 4228R tanker body is built with a robust 286 mm long, 70 mm wide, and 8 mm thick chassis frame to withstand heavy cargo loads. 

 

Thanks to its IR440+ and IT-10 rear axles and IF 7.0 front axle, the tanker keeps the required space between the wheels to support its weight. Additionally, it has a single tyre lift pusher axle to provide extra support and increase its load-carrying capacity.

BharatBenz 4228R Tanker Performance

The BharatBenz 4228R Tanker is powered by a 7200cc OM926 6-cylinder inline 4-stroke diesel engine that produces 282 hp (210 kW) at 2200 rpm and 1100 Nm at around 1200-1600 rpm. Its BS6 engine is mated to the G131 mechanical gearbox with triple synchromesh units for smooth gear shifting and reduced wear and tear on transmission parts. 

 

Additionally, it has power take-off (PTO) as a standard for transferring mechanical power from its engine to auxiliary components efficiently. The 4228R Tanker model offers a maximum geared speed of 80 kmph for small load body variants and 60 kmph for large load body variants. It has a dual-line pneumatic brake that uses compressed air to slow down the heavy-duty vehicle. 

 

The 4228R Tanker has a parabolic type leaf spring with hydraulic shock absorbers in the front and a semi-elliptical leaf spring with a balancer in the rear to evenly distribute the vehicle’s weight between the axles and ensure jerk-free cargo movement. With a 330-litre fuel tank, it can effectively manage long-haul transportation without requiring frequent refuelling.

For a 27.6-foot loading span, the tanker measures an overall body length of 10,990 mm while an 11,790 mm long body is attached to both a 30-foot and 31.3-foot load body variants. The vehicle highlights a 24 m turning circle diameter (TCD) for better navigation through congested spaces.

With an HVAC system (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), the model reduces driver fatigue, particularly in harsh weather. For enhanced steering control, the 4228R model incorporates a hydraulic-actuated tilt and telescopic power steering system. 

Performance

The BharatBenz 4228R Tanker is powered by an OM926 6-cylinder BS6 diesel engine which produces 282 hp (210 kW) at 2200 rpm and 1100 Nm at 1200-1600 rpm. Its 395 mm diameter single dry plate organic clutch helps to transmit torque efficiently from its BS6 engine to the transmission.

 

This 7200cc engine is mated to a 9-speed G131 mechanical gearbox with triple synchromesh units for synchronising the speeds of gears. With auxiliary power take-off (PTO), it enables the engine transfer to operate auxiliary parts independently of the vehicle’s main drivetrain. Featuring the parabolic-type leaf spring with hydraulic shock absorbers in front and a semi-elliptical leaf spring with a balancer in the rear, the vehicle ensures jerk-free long-haul transportation. 

 

In addition to this, the 4228R truck can readily manoeuvre through narrow lanes thanks to its 24-metre turning circle diameter (TCD).
