AMW plans exports to Africa and Far East

AMW motors, one of the country's leading commercial vehicle makers, is planning to conduct advance its hold in foreign terrains. The company has plans to export to Africa and other Far Eastern countries. This is a project that it expects to gain momentum by the beginning of the financial year of 2014.


A Ramasubramanian, the company's president had this to say:

“We have selected the dealership in Africa and they are setting up workshops, they are now given pilot vehicles for fuel trials and send trucks. Once the testing completes, things will pick up momentum. After April, we will start full fledged exports to Africa,” At present, the company has conducted exports to neighboring countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan and has just recently started with Sri Lanka and Maldives. The brand has a current focus on African and Indonesian territories. “Our ultimate target is that 10-15 of our portfolio should be exports. In a downturn it should increase. And it will take time since the 'marketitself' would be growing when you fix a target on a particular percentage. I believe we would reach at it in the next two to three years, even if the market grows,” Ramasubramanian added.

By April, they expect to have exports from two or three more countries, expanding from the present four. In addition to this, the company is also planning to enter the bus industry in a year's time. At present, it is designing and refining its manufacturing capacity to host bus producing as well.
