Tata leads the trucking industry in India by leaps and bounds. Though the numbers suggest that its competitors are closing in on the rivalry in terms of numbers, but Tata still is managing to lead the way.

Tata SFC 909 EX is developed on the grounds of Tata 407. The front looks of the truck is a complement to the confidence Tata has in the 407 design. The 497 TciC motor is coupled with an inter-cooler for engine optimisation. The truck offers good loading area in the mid-segment and returns a healthy mileage.

Engine - 497 TciC water-cooled Direct Injection Diesel Engine

Maximum Power - 121.5 bhp @ 2400 rpm

Payload Capacity – 6040 Kgs

Engine and Performance

SFC 909 EX from Tata draws its power from a 497 TciC water-cooled Direct Injection Diesel engine. It comes pre-fitted with an inter-cooler for performance optimisation and displaces a maximum power of 121.5 bhp @ 2400 rpm. This 3783 cc engine generates a maximum torque of 400 Nm available @ 1300-1500 rpm. A manual 5-speed transmission gear box helps divide power in all the gears. Electric rotary type VP27-Mico fuel injection technology helps in maintaining the equilibrium between power and mileage.

Vehicle Built and Load Capacity

This truck from Tata can easily be modified into Cab, High Deck and CLB options. It offers maximum payload capacity of 6040 kgs and a loading area length of 12.6 ft. The loading area, in other words, is exactly 8 square metres. It can prove to be a good option for transporting perishable items such as fruits and vegetables. Tata offers 3 years or 3 lakh kilometers warranty (whichever is earlier) on the same.

Handling and Suspension

It comes pre-fitted with a mechanical steering which is a little tough in the initial phase but gets used to on regular driving. The engine does not lag power, however the overall torque available at lower rpms could be improved. Semi-elliptical leaf with double acting telescopic type Shock absorbers in the front and semi-elliptical leaf with auxiliary springs & double acting telescopic type shock absorbers at the back provide good protection against the jerks on the road.

Braking and Safety

The big profile 16 inch tyres provide good grip on the road while the integrated air braking system offers premium stoppage ability at high speeds. The truck does not have an integrated ABS. Good quality seat belts make sure that the driver stays safe in head on collisions but Tata can give airbags a thought for sure.

Design and Comfort

The truck draws its design from Tata’s revolutionary 407. The truck looks quite similar to Tata 407. A nicely designed day cabin adds on to the overall look of the truck. The quality of plastics and fabrics used is not the best in the market but for a truck is good enough. Tata is not offering a tiltable cabin with the Tata SFC 909 Ex.
