The Tata 1412 LPT ICV truck is powered by a 3.3-litre 4-cylinder inline water-cooled direct Injection diesel engine with an intercooler, capable of generating 167 hp of power at 2600 rpm and 390 Nm at around 1000-2200 rpm. This engine is mated to a GBS 40 – 5-speed manual transmission.

The vehicle is equipped with parabolic leaf springs and hydraulic double-acting telescopic shock absorbers in the front for ride comfort while the rear houses semi-elliptical leaf springs for rigidity and higher load-carrying capacity. The truck is also outfitted with 8.25 R20-16PR-sized tyres for higher load-carrying capacity.

This new engine delivers greater mileage, a better response at the start, and reduces driving fatigue by less gear shifting.

The powertrain is supported by highly optimized aggregates such as Tata's in-house rear axle 1009R fully floating banjo type; the 330 mm clutch is a single plate dry friction type. The front suspension is a parabolic leaf spring with hydraulic double-acting telescopic shock absorbers and semi-elliptical leaf spring in the rear. The brakes are dual circuit full air S cam type, auto slack adjuster drum type with ABS.
