January 3, 2020: Mahindra entered the ICV trucking segment with its new Furio range of trucks in early 2018. This range of trucks is said to have been created as per international standards, in fact, the trucks are designed by the iconic Italian design house, Pininfarina which is now owned by Mahindra. Catering to the sub-12-ton category with a state of the art day cabin, modern instrument cluster and a host of utility features is the Mahindra Furio 11.
It has a maximum permissible GVW of 11100kg and offers two vehicle configuration choices - Cabin & Chassis and Cabin with load body options. The load body options for the Furio 11 are High Side Deck and Container. It further has two different loading spans to choose from - 17.5 ft and 22.3 ft while there are also two separate wheelbase lengths on offer - 4000 mm and 4950 mm, respectively.
Powering the Mahindra Furio 11 is the company’s BSIV compliant 4 cylinder 3500cc Mahindra mDi Tech diesel engine with FuelSmart technology. This engine produces a maximum power output of 140bhp made at 2400rpm while the peak torque rating of 500Nm arrives in the low 1250-1800rpm range. The transmission duties are taken care by a 6-Speed gearbox mated to a single dry plate clutch. The top speed is limited to 80kmph while the Mahindra Furio 11 has a 160-liter fuel tank.

Mahindra Truck and Bus, a part of the Mahindra Group, launched the Furio range of intermediate commercial vehicles in Jan 2019. This was the first time that the manufacturer has ventured into this category, and will help in solidifying its position in the commercial vehicle space. One of the models in the Furio range is the Furio 11, which is designed to deliver more earnings, owing to its highest payload capacity in the segment. The Furio range has been developed with an investment of Rs 600 crores and has been rigorously tested across various terrains in India. There are multiple driving modes to choose from, which allow the driver to pull out the desired power depending on the road gradient and load. It delivers high torque even at lower rpms which ensures a pace pickup at lower speeds. The GVW capacity of the truck is 11.1 tonnes. The day cabin is ergonomically designed and comes with many features like adjustable seats, air vents for better ventilation, headbox, lockable storage, glove box, utility pocket and a highly informative digital instrument cluster, which comes with Driver Information System (DIS). It also comes loaded with safety features like a 10-bar air brake system, ABS, anti-roll bar, fog lamps, seat belts for both driver and assistant and metallic fenders. The Mahindra Furio 11 is best suited to carry FMCG products, fruits, vegetables, parcels, and other goods. It is offered in two variants – the Furio 11 4000 HSD and the Furio 11 4950 container. The company is also providing 5 years or 5 lakh km of free maintenance with the vehicle.

Engine and performance
Powering the Furio 11 is a 3500cc, mDi tech, four-cylinder, BS-IV compliant engine with FuelSmart technology that is capable of generating a max power of 140bhp at 2400 rpm and a peak torque of 525 Nm between 1250-1800 rpm. This power is delivered to the wheels using a six-speed manual gearbox. The engine has an 1800 bar common rail system that delivers a unique combination of high power along with high fuel-efficiency. The gear-driven air compressor further enhances the engine reliability. The fuel smart technology lets the driver select between three different driving modes, choosing between superior mileage and optimum power as and when the business demands. The three driving modes are Turbo - when transporting big loads over steep inclines, Heavy - when carrying full loads and Light - when running without load. The truck is capable of clocking a top speed of 80 kmph and has a fuel tank capacity of 160 litres.
Vehicle build and load capacity
The vehicle build is very solid and supports the easy transport of various materials. The truck is offered in two wheelbase options - 4000mm and 4950mm. The Gross Vehicle Weight of the truck is 11.1 tonnes which indicates the high payload capacity.
Handling and Suspension
The handling of the truck is aided by a telescopic, tilt-adjustable power steering which enables easy maneuvering of the truck. Suspension duties are performed by front parabolic suspension and Semi-elliptical leaf springs at the rear, which is capable of absorbing the road bumps and provide a comfortable, smooth ride.
Braking & Safety
Braking duties are performed by air brakes with Anti Lock Braking (ABS) system that ensures appropriate retardation needed to stop the truck. Other safety features include parking brakes, seat belts, and an anti-roll bar.
Design and comfort
Pininfarina, the Italian design hand of Mahindra has designed the Furio 11. The design team has designed a brand new image for this range of ICVs. The exterior of the truck displays its sturdy build, while the cabin flaunts a modern, superior feel. At the front, you will notice a wide windscreen that provides excellent visibility to the driver. There’s a 7-slat grille placed below that with silver accents. The dual-tone bumper also looks quite stylish. Inside the cabin, you’ll get a plush feel with high-quality material used all around. There are 8 air vents that keep the cabin well-ventilated. The 4-way adjustable seats are very comfortable and can be easily adjusted without any hassle. There are seat belts available for both the driver and the assistant. The four-spoke tilt and telescopic power steering allow the driver to comfortably maneuver the truck around. A low rake angle ensures that minimum sunlight comes into the cabin, keeping the cabin environment cooler than normal. Other notable features include a headbox, lockable storage, glove box, utility pocket, and a highly informative digital instrument cluster, which comes with Driver Information System (DIS).
