Mahindra Bolero Pikup CNG Pickup- Expert Review

Mahindra Bolero pickup needs no introduction as they are the undisputed leader in the last-mile delivery segment in India. Since the Bolero Pikups have appeared on the Indian commercial cargo space, they continue to top the popularity and sales charts. Customers seem to like them for their practicality, performance, reliability and overall total cost of ownership. Bolero Pikups have been a common sight across Indian cities, towns and villages, as they have proved their utility across the terrain, applications and operating conditions. Mahindra continues to improve the pickups to make them more appealing and useful for the customers. To address the large pool of customer segments, today, the Bolero Pikup is virtually available in almost every size, shape and form.

While the diesel-powered Bolero Pickups form the larger sales volume within the family of pickups, you have few CNG variants. Bolero Pikup CNG one such variant that you can buy to run on alternate fuel that is equally powerful, reliable and affordable to own and run. The Bolero pikup CNG comes with the same performance DNA that makes them India’s most loved one vehicles. If you’re looking for a Bolero pikup for your logistics/transport business, then we tell you everything that this last-mile CNG pickup offers you.

From the exterior, you won’t find much of a change in this variant as the focus isn’t on the look but the applications. The exterior of this variant is quite familiar with almost no change in the front facia or the body, which consists of the strong steel bumper, the well-integrated new multi-reflector headlamps with halogen bulbs, turn indicator and parking light and big wheel arches, black outside door handle and mirrors as well. Mahindra logo and body-colour grille giving it a muscular appearance.

The cabin is quite contemporary and stylish that Mahindra has kept for years with subtle changes here and there with changing times and adding some customer demands with every update. The appearance and overall design seem to resonate well with the cargo customer buyers, in fact, they love the vehicle as it looks.

What you also see at the exterior of these vehicles is the sizable cargo deck which is 2540 x1700x650 mm in length, width and height. This cargo body is the key UPS of the pickup that allows you to carry any type of cargo or you can build a special application body as per your cargo needs. You can notice the 5.5 j x wheel rim and 7.00 R15 size tyres. While the CNG tank isn’t visible from the outside it comes with a 140L water capacity. The wheelbase is 3264 mm, overall length of 5219 mm. The CNG variant is 2990 kg of gross weight vehicle that allows you to carry a rated payload of 1190 kg.

The Bolero pikups are thoroughly commercial cargo vehicles used for cargo shipments in urban and rural areas. These pikups are subjected to a lot of hard operating conditions as well as heavy cargo carrying. Yet, Mahindra ensures the cabin is highly safe, comfortable and enjoyable to drive without really making it too expansive as the customers of this segment are highly price sensitive. This is aimed at lesser fatigue and easier operations that added to the overall productivity of the vehicle.

You would notice a dual-tone interior that gives the cabin a premium feel. Then at the driver side door, you find the back inside door handle, manual window slider and hand brake next to the driver seat. The seats are in vinyl upholstery in black colour, there isn’t a headrest, the three-spoke steering wheel looks attractive, The instrument clusters consist of multi-information display, speedometer and notification indicators. Mahindra isn’t offering you a standard factory-fitted music system in this variant but there is a provision to fit it if you wish too as an accessory. There are ample storage spaces inside the cabin including a grab handle at the co-passenger side and a 12V power socket. The Bolero pikup CNG gets the standard power -steering and SUV-like smoother and easy gear shifting.

Well in terms of performance, both the diesel and CNG powertrain of Mahindra have a proven track record over the years. In the CNG variant, you get the MSI 4-cylinder 2500 CNG engine that produces 67hp of power at 178 Nm of torque. The engine also gets an efficient 5-speed gearbox which is smooth to operate and help in better mileage. The aggregates of this pikup include rigid leaf spring suspension at front and rear, single-plate dry clutch disc brake at the front and drum at the rear. The Bolero Pikup CNG is a highly capable truck even for tough cargo applications and the powertrain is quite reliable and promises good mileage and power.

In terms of safety, the CNG variant is no different, here you have standard safety features that are in-built in the vehicles. Then there is load sensing proportioning valve brakes for superior braking. An engine immobilizer that ensures no theft. The pickup has a bigger bonnet that makes the driver safe in case of any front impact. Also, the ELR seat belts offer vital safety to the driver.

Needless to say, the CNG variant of the Mahindra Bolero is a cargo vehicle that offers you all the inherent benefit of a last-mile delivery vehicle with an alternate powertrain that makes it affordable to run with adequate CNG supply and also an environment-friendly vehicle than the diesel engine. Mahindra says you can run up to 350 km in one single full tank of CNG. In terms of performance, the pickup is highly acclaimed and known for reliability and productivity no matter where you are driving and the nature of your cargo. In a nutshell, if you’re looking for a CNG pikup or a last-mile cargo/logistics vehicle in the 1000-1200 kg payload, this Bolero variant fits the bill quite well.
