Mahindra Bolero City Pikup Pickup- Expert Review
Overview
The Mahindra Bolero Pik Up platform has been a massive sales topper ever since its arrival in the Indian market. Interestingly, the Bolero Pik Up lineup contributes a total of 70% market share in the segment. Continuing to make its strong presence in the market, Mahindra has launched the Bolero City Pik Up, specially designed for practical use in the city. A significant change in their new offering is the presence of a shorter bonnet, leading to better manoeuvrability on narrow and crowded city roads. This inter-city vehicle facilitates efficient handling in confined spaces while returning excellent fuel efficiency. Also, the truck carries a higher payload capacity of 1.4T and a large 8.7 ft cargo box for better city applications.
Pros:
- Strong suspension setup
- Increased fuel efficiency
- Higher payload capacity
Cons
- Shorter Bonnet
Exterior
Mahindra Bolero Pik Up gets a healthy body and structure that helps in enhancing the durability and reliability of the vehicle in any possible terrain. It sports eye-catching wrap-around headlamps, a stylised front chrome grille along with a higher payload capacity at 1.4T and a large 8.7 ft cargo box comes with a large 215/75 R15 inch tyre to enhance the vehicle’s performance and offer better road grip. To support the overloading in the car and to prevent it from incurring damage to the truck, Mahindra offers a rear suspension which is over slung in nature, allowing for higher loading capacity. With a loading span of 8.7 ft, it comes with a large canopy that aids in offering maximum space. Moving to the dimensions, it measures at 1700 mm in width, 1865 mm in height and 5215 mm in length. It features an impressive 3260 mm of wheelbase for optimum stability.
Interior
On the inside, the City Pikup comes equipped with a well-designed cabin that offers a decent amount of legroom alongside a more full co-driver seat for comfortable seating of people in the cabin. The cabin inside is quite spacious with not much noise generated inside, offering an excellent ride quality. Also, the vehicle gets a trendy dual-tone instrument panel and comfortable fabric seats which are driver-adjustable, for efficient handling. Additionally, the truck gets a matching dual-tone door and an informative console with a driver information display. Also, the vehicle receives rigid front and rear suspension with the presence of leaf springs to ensure a comfortable ride.
Performance
The City Pickup is powered by a BSIV compliant four-cylinder 2523cc Mahindra m2DiCR 2.5L TB DI, Turbo Charged Engine. The 4 cylinder engine generates a maximum power of 63 bhp at 3200 rpm while producing a peak torque of up to 195 Nm at the 1400-2000rpm range. Power to the rear-wheel-drive is sent via a 5-Speed manual gearbox mated to a single dry plate clutch. The 2523 cc engine maxes out at a top speed limited to 80 km per hour.
Safety
In the safety departments, the vehicle lags behind as it does not offer disc brakes over this segment. However, hydraulic units are used that provide an average braking performance when the vehicle is completely loaded. With the absence of hill hold or fog lights, the City Pickup gets inconvenient for safety at hilly terrains and adverse weather conditions. Both the front and rear axle are rigid axle with Leaf Spring. There’s no power-assisted steering wheel offered by the brand. However, it does come with seat belts.
Verdict
Mahindra Bolero City Pikup is a decent small truck with an exceptional loading capacity when it comes to delivering good inside the city or for providing doorstep delivery. The robust body and the raised rear suspension makes an addition to the powerful engine the vehicle gets. This vehicle is a good option when it comes to swift and reliable delivery alongside the added benefit of a warranty of 3 years/ 1,00,000 kilometres and minimal maintenance costs. However, the driver has to be careful with the brakes as it gets hydraulic units.
