BharatBenz MD In-Power 1214RE BS-IV Truck- Expert Review
EXPERT REVIEW – BHARATBENZ MD IN-POWER 1214 RE
BharatBenz has become one of the top rated commercial vehicle makers in the country. The brand's trucks are looked upon as the perfect equilibrium between power and luxury. It, in fact, is the first truck maker in India to put equal emphasis on both performance and comfort. The difference that BharatBenz trucks make can easily be gauged from the first glimpse of the truck cabins and exterior aesthetics. BharatBenz MD IN-Power 1214RE is yet another marvel available in the country.
With base model starting at INR 13.1 lakhs, the truck maker has tried it's best to keep the product affordable despite its brilliant performance stats. It is powered by the revolutionary 3907cc MD IN-Power 4D34i engine.
The engine complies with BS-IV norms and is one of the best performers in the market today. It generates a maximum power of 140bhp at 2500 rpm. 420 Nm of maximum torque available at 1500-2000 rpm adds icing to the cake. The heart of this truck is mated to a six speed gearbox that feels good but lacks in the second gear. Overall, the truck offers good response and is comfortable to drive.
Engine - 4D34i, 3907 cc
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) - 13000 KG
Wheelbase and Turning Radius - 4250 mm
Power Steering - Yes
Engine and Performance
Like most other engines that BharatBenz offers, this 4D34i, 3907 cc is a game changer too. The accelerator of the truck does not feel heavy at all and is very responsive for a truck. The engine vibrations, like most other trucks, are viable, but are very low when compared head on.
It generates a maximum power of 140bhp at 2500 rpm, and produces a maximum torque of 420 Nm available at 1500-2000 rpm. The six speed gear box makes sure that enough power is available in the lower gears for easy cruising through the city traffic.
Vehicle Built and Load Capacity
The vehicle is available in 3 load body options which are 4440mm, 5175 mm and 5785 mm. The company, here has placed special emphasis on different load body options, keeping in mind the diverse needs of Indian transporters. The built quality of the vehicle looks sturdy. Bharatbenz has not used cheap materials in truck manufacturing at all.
The lorry, looks a bit rough but we guess the company has done that on purpose keeping in mind all the tough loads the truck would have to carry.
Handling and Suspension
Truck handling is one area where BharatBenz has really mastered the segment. The steering does not feel heavy like many other trucks in the segment, and offers class one response to driver’s instructions. A must add on here is the amount of confidence it puts up in the individual behind the wheels.
The suspension on the other hand is not that bad, if not good either. It creates a little confusion in the mind as it tackles the biggest of pot holes at times easily, but struggles to tap the smaller ones. It could simply be because of the fact that the truck we reviewed was not carrying any payload, which might have resulted in the more body roll.
Braking and safety
BharatBenz has equipped the truck with pneumatic, foot operated, dual line brakes. The brakes bestow the truck with fair stoppage power but can certainly be improved. The CV maker is not offering ABS even as an optional fitment with the truck. 6.50 x 20 & 8.25 R 20 — 16 PR tyres offer good grip, but are not the best either.
Design and Comfort
Design and comfort are certainly the eye catchers when it comes to BharatBenz trucks. Though the base version of the truck model in question here is priced at INR 13.1 lakhs, BharatBenz, still has not compromised on the day cabin quality. The interiors, in our view are better than any other truck in the category. The plastics do not feel cheap. The seats offered with the truck look promising and comfortable. The exteriors of the truck complement its interiors and vice versa.
