Plus, it also has a 9-speed gearbox to the rescue of the driver. However, it is powered by the same 5.9-litre turbocharged motor that makes 178 bhp of power and 675 Nm of torque.

It has a gross weight of 31,000 kilograms but the maximum payload capacity is more than many other trucks, that is 18,440. The tiltable sleeper cabin has a good air-conditioning system for maximum comfort along with a tiltable steering wheel column and adjustable driver's seat. It even has seat belts and fog lights.

AMW has trusted its best engine, that is Cummins B5.9 5,883 cc 6-Cylinder In-Line Compression Ignition Turbocharged Intercooled BSIII Diesel engine to power 3118 TP. It could easily produce 178 bhp power @ 2,500 rpm and a pounding maximum torque of 675 Nm @ 1,500 rpm. Being a tipper, its very handy to get this much torque at such low rpms as the truck would move smoothly on rugged roads.

Coming to the performance part, 3118 TP could hit a top speed of 78 km/h and a gradeability of 28.32%. With these numbers, the truck could easily move on ascents while carrying load full to its capacity. Helping truck to achieve this much speed and gradeability is its 9-Speed GB Synchromesh gearbox and making the overall transmission process smoother is Single Plate Dry Coil Spring Type 380 mm diameter Hydro Pneumatically Operated clutch.

Available only in 5,535 mm wheelbase option, its large turning radius of 10,000 is able to make most of the curves easily. Made specifically for the tipper applications, it’s available in box type body. Talking about the numbers, it spans nearly 8,230 long, 2,700 mm high and 2,475 mm wide. The ground clearance is also 280 mm front and 270 mm rear.

Handling and Suspension

AMW 3118 TP has Twin Steerable Front Axle with Integral Power Steering equipped with two universal joints (UJs). With the diameter of 470 mm and tilt adjust movement, it’s quite smooth to maneuver the truck on varied roads.

Having Semi Elliptical Leaf Springs as front suspension and Fully Articulated Inverted Semi Elliptical Leaf Springs on Tandem Bogie Trunnion with Torque Rods as rear suspension prevents most of the jerks and bumps during the drive. Also, the Forged I section Reverse Elliot Type front axle and Fully Floating Tandem driven by Hypoid Bevel Gear with Inter Axle Differential Lock rear axle provide the drive balance by sharing the weight in ratio of 12,000 and 19,000 kg respectively.

Packed with Pneumatic Foot Operated Dual Line on all Wheels with Automatic Slack Adjuster service brakes, 3118 TP could be stopped easily at safe distance. Further improving the brake experience are Butterfly Type engine exhaust brake and Hand Operated Spring Actuated parking brakes on both rear axles.

For safety purpose, there are fog lights, seat belts and the chassis frame has been built up of high quality steel tested rigorously and under extreme conditions.
