Published On Mar 23, 2016By Prashant Talreja

After month long bitter battle with the management, workers at the Tata Motors' Sanand plant have ended their strike. Both the management and the workers have reached a consensus in this regard following which suspension on 13 out of 26 workers would be revoked. The company has released a statement in this regard saying that the management and representatives of workers’ union have reached an agreement in the presence of officials of labor department, Gujarat. Both the parties have reached an understanding on the important issues of conflict that includes resumption of production, revoking of suspended workers and pending inquiry.

As per the agreement, Tata Motors will revoke suspension of 13 workmen with immediate effect, but the inquiry will continue. However, decision on the suspension of the rest of the 13 workmen will be made only after completion of all inquiries. The company has setup a time frame of 4 to 6 months to conclude all pending inquiries.

It was only a few days back when the workers’ union at Sanand Plant had been registered under the name 'Bharatiya Kamdar Ekta Sangh, Sanand', which was officially recognized by Tata Motors and the labor department of Gujarat government.

"The Union of our workmen will submit a reasonable charter of demand after completion of disciplinary process ie of inquiries of suspended workmen," said Tata Motors in a statement.

After reaching consensus with the management, workers will resume their duties from 23rd March 2016. Also, the workers’ union will cooperate with the officials in all legal proceedings pertaining to the issue.

It all started a month ago on 22nd of February when more than 400 permanent workers suspended their duties demanding the quashing of suspension on 26 employees. The protest gathered momentum and disrupted regular activities in the plant for nearly four weeks. This led to the turbulence and also affected the company's shares at stock market.
