5 top three-wheeler brands in India: June’22

The three-wheeler vehicle segment, also known as auto-rickshaw, recorded strong growth in June '22. Bajaj Auto and Piaggio stayed at the top with the highest market share in the passenger and cargo carrier segments.
Taking a cue from the overall auto retail sale trends, the three-wheeler segment registered a strong growth of 212% with a total volume of 46,040 units in June’22. The high demand for passenger, cargo carrier three-wheelers in the conventional and electric segments continues to accelerate the sale. Three-wheeler commonly referred to as ‘auto-rickshaw’ is at the heart of last-mile people mobility and cargo delivery across India.
The retail sale announced by FADA points towards sustained demand for three-wheeler across the board, and top brands recorded smart gains in key segments in the month. Here is the list of the top 5 brands in the overall 3W segment by their retails sales number and market share in June 22.
1) BAJAJ AUTO
Bajaj Auto, the familiar three-wheeler, with a strong brand loyalty across micro markets, remains the first choice of customers. The firms top-rated passenger three-wheeler range like the segment leaders, Compact RE, Maxima Z, Maxima C and Maxima X Wide continues to attract first-time and new buyers. The company sold 11,383 units, grabbing 24.7% of the total market.
Piaggio which sells the Ape range of auto-rickshaws maintains a steady sale in the month with a mix of IC engine and electric vehicles. The firm retails top Ape branded 3W including Ape City, Ape Xtra LDX and Ape E-City, Ape E Xtra among others. Piaggio retailed a total of 4,203 units in the month giving it a market share of 9%.
In the electric three-wheeler market, YC Electric retailed 2,385 units in the month garnering a 5% market share in the month. The company continues to find new buyers for its battery-operated full-electric three-wheeler range that includes Yatri Super, Yatri Deluxe, and E Loader, among others.
Mahindra sold a total of 1,975 units in the month with a market share of 4% in the overall three-wheeler category. The Alfa and Alfa Plus are the top vehicle models the company retails in the segment.
5) SAERA ELECTRIC AUTO
Another full-electric battery-operated vehicle maker Saera Electric Auto, ranked number 5 with a total sale of 1,435 units, taking a 3% market share in the overall segment.
