Tata Organizes Mega Event Dedicated to Truck Drivers

Published On Aug 02, 2016By Prashant Talreja

Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle maker, celebrated a unique “Ek Shaam Saarthi Ke Naam” event for the truck drivers recently. The event was held to engage drivers more into the system and to make them feel a part of the industry. The event organized stand-up comedy shows, dance performances and motivational videos including the one from T1 Prima Racing Championship. An astounding 400 drivers attended the event held in Bengaluru.

Held on July 28, this fun-filled event was a first-of-its-kind truck driver engagement program and infused a sense of belonging amongst the trucking fraternity, apart from establishing a relationship with the truckers. After the lamp lighting ceremony, the audience took a pledge to follow safe driving. Truckers also got insights of the Indian economy and the pivotal role of truck drivers in the country’s growth.

The company felicitated the participants of T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship Season held earlier this year. The drivers also shared their stories and personal experiences of becoming ‘star’ truck racers from just being mere drivers. The event was also held across seven other cities apart from Bengaluru namely, Chennai, Ludhiana, Barmana, Jamshedpur, Pune, Ajmer and Kolkata. Around 4,500 drivers took part in this nation-wide event for truck drivers by Tata Motors.

Mr. Rajesh Kaul, Business Head of Intermediate, Medium & Heavy Trucks, Tata Motors Ltd., said, “While the country grows, our customers are increasingly finding themselves in an economy, where drivers are leaving the industry, at a much faster pace, than they were expected to enter. The role of a truck driver is essential to keep us all going, transporting nearly everything we know, but we sometimes judge them without knowing who they really are.”

Mr Kaul also said that like everyone, truck drivers should be treated fairly and Tata Motors, as a technology provider is partnering its customers in not only developing commercial vehicles\solutions for its respective businesses, but to acknowledge the profession as that of being the real drivers of the economy. Through initiatives like ‘Ek Shaam Saarthi Ke Naam’, Tata Motors recognizes truck drivers for their skill, determination, their sacrifices and the success, in moving the nation.

The event also included driver training teams that explained the various beneficial programs to participating drivers at Tata Motors’ IDTR (Institute of Driving Training & Research) centers. The comprehensive platform also constituted financing options for commercial vehicles, encouraging drivers to own and drive their own trucks.

Tata Motors plans to host more of such initiatives across the country.
