Published On May 04, 2020By Trucksdekho Editorial Team

The Intra V30 first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo now replaces the V20 variant of the Intra compact truck family. This new BS6 truck now comes with a powerful engine and host of contemporary features.

Tata Motors first introduced the modern Intra range of trucks in mid-2019 with an aim to offer more than what the hugely popular Ace mini-trucks were already catering to its customers. The Ace family has a wide range of trucks for every last-mile delivery options including tonnage and cargo bodies to choose. Yet, Tata Motors wanted to go for that extra mile to woo its customers with a more modern and premium truck.

The Intra-family of trucks are in many ways extension of the Ace trucks, and at the same time quite different in what they offer. The Intra is a range of compact trucks built on Tata Motors new premium tough design philosophy blending the vehicle look equally well with robustness, performance and reliability.

The Intra V30 is suitable for customers looking at a last-mile cargo delivery vehicle which is efficient, offers higher cargo load capabilities and can be used for fairly long-distance trips. The combination of superior aggregates, higher performance and feature-rich comfortable trucks, V30 promises everything a transporter is looking from last-mile delivery trucks. Trucksdekho has revealed the V30 back in February with its details features and BS6 avatar.

Tata Motors says the V30 has what it takes to become a truck of choice for its customers. A rare combination of an aesthetically good looking truck that comes with high-quality aggregates, driver comfort, safety, robust performance and promise of reliability.

Let's take a look at what the Intra V30 offer.

Advanced Features

The Intra V30 is basically a bigger vehicle with a focus on a higher load body to carry both high weight and voluminous goods with ease and help the customer earn more. The loading area is 2690 mm X 1607 mm (8.8 X 5.3 feet), this bigger cargo body means the capacity to carry a bigger load, with higher revenue potential and greater profit. To efficiently carry the bigger load, V30 comes with a slightly bigger tyre in 185 R14 to effortlessly maneuver through city and rural roads.

Powerful Truck

The higher load-body and bigger tyre need equally higher power, and Tata Motors hasn’t disappointed in this department. The customer gets the V30  a powerful 1496 cc engine for superior performance. The power figures of the engines are 52 kW @ 4 000 r / min (70 HP) & torque of 140 Nm @ 1800-3 000 r/ min. Similarly, to ensure longevity and strength, the V30’s chassis frame is top-quality and manufactured using the hydroforming process. By using lesser welding joints on the chassis, it offers higher structural strength, and helping durability and lower NVH levels.

Robust aggregates

The V30 gets a strong and rugged leaf spring suspension fitted with 5 leaves in front, 8 in the rear. This strong suspension combination improves the load-carrying ability of the vehicle. The ground clearance of 175 mm means the V30 can be deployed even in some challenging road conditions, and the 37% of gradability ensures steep climbs on flyovers and rural terrains even in a fully-loaded truck. The clutch of 215 mm diameter hydraulic actuated make sure fatigue-free driving this is complemented with automatic adjustment of pedal height.

Driver comfort

The V30 primarily targeted at bigger load volumes and longer distance travel time. And to ensure higher driver productivity and greater vehicle performance, Tata Motors has worked extensively on the cabin with a focus on the comfort of the driver.

V30 gets a modern, roomy and spacious cabin with the dashboard-mounted gear lever and cozy seats. The electric-assisted steering makes driving effortless even in the long drives or congested city traffic. Since the driver is at the center of this vehicle, Tata Motors engineers have developed the cabin making sure that all the controls, pedals, and levers are within the reach of the driver, thus making the vehicle driving as enjoyable by avoiding any kind of stress points generally associated with drivers.

The Intra V30 is fitted with both the gear shift advisor (GSA) as well as Eco Switch. The GSA signals on the instrument cluster the optimum point for shifting gears. The V30 comes with two driving modes: Eco and Normal. The Eco mode essentially helps in achieving superior milage and the normal mode is used in circumstances such as steep gradients, loaded conditions, frequent braking or city traffic.

Tata Motors says both these drive modes will help the customers in seeking better mileage. Also, equally important is the company is promising lower maintenance in V30 due to superior aggregates this essentially means the owner can earn more.

V20 Phased-out

The Intra truck was earlier available in two variants the V10 and V20 with the primary difference in their load-carrying capacities. However, Tata Motors seemed to have decided to phase-out the V20 variant which was a somewhat premium and bigger sibling of the V10, and replace it with V30.

It appears now the V30 will fill this gap with higher power and bigger vehicle for the customer who wants to buy the top variant for carrying larger cargo deliveries along with better feature combinations. This strategy has merit as it would avoid cannibalizing within the truck variants, and rather customers would get a clear choice between the Intra trucks.

The Intra V10 and V30 now cater to two different ends of the segment as both of them differ significantly in power and payload. The V10 comes with 1000 kg of payload and 110 HP of the engine with 110 Nm of torque. Clearly a scale down variant against the V30.

The Intra compact trucks are truly remarkable for today’s judicious transport customers. Many buyers in this segment are owner-driver who have been in the business for a while and wish to graduate to a higher power vehicle and also a vehicle that offers an upgrade in stature too.
