Tata Motors expand the popular 407 platform, introduces SFC 510 and 610 variants

To offer more for less, the firm aims to capitalize on the successful platform to appeal to the broader customers and cargo applications. Both the new trucks carry the successful legacy of its predecessor forwards. Read to find out more.
Market leader Tata Motors in a quest to revamp its truck portfolio to the new tighter emission norms, also bringing new innovative products. The striking example of this strategy is the two new LCV cargo products- SFC 510 and SFC 610- both come from the pedigree of the highly successful 407 platform and promise to offer more.
At present, Tata Motors is the sole truck maker in India selling the SFC styled cabins with a distinctive nose designed for greater safety. The new offering comes with key characteristics of overall optimized products, superior driver comfort, better connectivity features, and importantly, the signature promise of a lower cost of ownership.
The trucks are suitable for several critical applications in the last-mile delivery eco-system, such as courier & parcel, while goods, e-commerce, cement, food grains, sand, bricks, water tanker, and special applications like towing van, skylift, etc.
The trucks positioned in the 5T and 6T gross vehicle weight category- the 510 SFC TT is a single variant while the 610 is available in two options the 610 SFC and 610SFC TT.
Eicher Pro 2049 series and Mahindra JAYO are the two competes against Tata 407 which is an undisputed leader in the segment.
Top Features
Both the variants come with the proven 4 SPCR engine tuned to the BS6 emission with the power of 100PS at 2800 r/min; this is up 18% for a higher turnaround, the torque is 300 Nm with 20% more pulling power.
Tata Motors has equipped this truck with unique features to ensure the owner gets the most bang for his buck. The new engine is tuned to enhance higher power, torque, and maximum gradeability. The power steering is a standard with the new H2LS braking system, banjo type rear axle, improved chassis thickness, and reduction in clutching, gear shifting efforts, and fitted with parabolic suspension in front.
The truck comes with an in-built music system with Blaupunkt speakers, USB fast charging. The seats are comfortable with a new design for heat resistance, PTO provision, reverse parking assist, standard telematics kit, etc.
Superior Aggregates
Tata Motors has pushed the envelop to give this range the most high-quality aggregates. The 510 and 610 designed to carry more cargo with high strength steel of 800 Mpa steel for most robust chassis frame. The chassis bolted design increases modularity.
The single-piece frame for engine mountings is modified for in-line BS 6 engines. The long member thickness is now 5mm more than the earlier 4mm for any LCV in the segment. A serrated coupling flange propeller shaft for reliability and easy maintenance. The e-viscous fan improves the fuel efficiency of this powerful truck. The braking has enhanced for accuracy and precise control of the vehicle. The H2LS brakes are maintenance-free and provide longer life.
The range gets the latest instrument cluster with display trip indication, fuel, DEF level indicator, air pressure, speed, brake, seat belt, temperature, fuel economy, DPF regeneration, time, trip, SCR fault-related indications, and gear shift advisor, etc.
Comfortable cabin
The 407 range of trucks are quite famous for their cabin comfort, and Tata Motors has worked more to make the cabin even more comfortable and productive. The low hysteresis clutch and the high-sized clutch booster help the lower pedal effort by 40% over the BS4 engine. The gear shift travel effort reduced by 30% against the previous generation trucks. The seat belts can be adjusted as per the driver heights.
With the parabolic suspension with rubber bush for better stability with any load on any terrain, the NVH is quite lower with much-enhanced engine mounts. On top of it is the standard power steering for effortless driving with a new steering wheel. The melba fabric for seats makes them comfortable both in summer and winter. The improved accelerator, brake, and clutch pedal positions help drivers for fatigue-free driving during longer trips.
Tata Motors has refined the 407 platforms further to offer more value to its discerning LCV customers with the 510 and 610 SFC variants. The new trucks carry forward the same attributes with a completely new approach by offering far more value for money to the customers.
