Road Safety Week: Thane Cops Stick Reflectors on Trucks and Buses

Published On Jan 12, 2017By Mukul Yudhveer Singh

Thane traffic cops, keeping the safety of both commercial as well as passenger vehicle drivers in mind, have pasted over 1000 reflectors on trucks, buses and certain other vehicles during the road safety week.

As reported from The Economic Times, Shrikant Sonde, Traffic Inspector, said, "Reflectors are necessary as it will help the driver riding behind to know that there are goods being carried in front of him. So, we made sure to stick red and yellow reflectors on the rear side of vehicles carrying goods. These reflectors last for over three months. We even made sure not to use white reflectors as they get worn out soon."

Apart from pasting reflectors on several commercial vehicles, traffic cops in Thane have kept themselves busy with several other such programs during the road safety week. Around 200 auto drivers, including women, were also applauded and felicitated by the cops for their quality of work during last year.

The Economic Times report also quoted Sandeep Palave, DCP for Traffic, who said that the programmes were held for different modes of transport. “The things that can be explained to car drivers cannot be explained to auto or truck drivers. So, we organised separate bike rallies for men and women, felicitation programme for auto drivers and activity-based programmes like drawing, elocution and essay competition for school children," he said. Mr. Palave further added that these people would be called as ‘traffic friend’ and they would be able to wear the jacket and cap and solve traffic congestion.

More than 800 motorists, who took part in the road safety week rally, were presented with kits consisting of caps, reflector jackets and whistles. These motorists included individuals from both the sexes.

Commercial vehicles including trucks, tempos and mini vans running with damaged tail, as well as turn indicator lights are a common sight in India. Such vehicles, especially in dark and fog conditions, not only make driving difficult for fellow drivers but also become the cause of many minor to major accidents.
