Renault Forays into Pickup Segment with Alaskan

Published On Jul 04, 2016By Prashant Talreja

World’s one of the most renowned automakers Renault has finally marked its entry into the small commercial vehicle segment with Alaskan pickup truck. The truck is a one-tonner and would be launched in the Columbia first, then across the globe, subsequently. Packed with Renault 2.3 Litre dCi engine, five-link rear suspension, fully boxed frame, and overall tough chassis, the pickup looks good to address the basic needs.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Ashwani Gupta, VP & Global Head, Renault Light Commercial Vehicle Business, said, “This stunning vehicle provides us with the means to fulfill the needs of professional users and individual customers around the world. With Alaskan, we are on track to take Renault's LCV Division forward from being a top regional player to a top global player.”

It’s to be noted that the French automaker did launch an expert brand under the name Renault Pro+ in September 2015 to answer the customers’ LCV needs exclusively. The company is bound to provide customized solutions, services and more through this brand. Renault is looking to target SCV market in Latin America which accounted for 15 million SCV sales and out of which 5 millions were pickups with new Alaskan.

Talking about the pickup, Mr. Laurens Van Den Acker, Groupe Renault SVP, Corporate Design, said, “Alaskan's design includes assertive dimensions and a visual impression of power and strength. It is the perfect companion for leisure use and everyday motoring.”
