Prices of Commercial Vehicles to be increased by 6-10 percent this month!

After the Supreme Court ban on BS-III vehicles starting April 1st 2017, the new BS-IV emission standard would attract the price hike ranging from 6-10 percent this month. The ban on BS-III vehicles' sale has certainly created ripples in the entire auto industry and now with the advent of BS-IV standard, it’s time for the automakers to hike the price of their commercial vehicles.
According to Vinod K Dasari, MD, Ashok Leyland, commercial vehicles are currently in the range of half ton to 49 tonnes, hence, there would be a hike of 6 to 10 percent in the segment. Other automakers are also expected to follow the suite. On one side, the latest order from the Apex Court has wreaked havoc for some automakers, while on the other, it has gained support from many leading manufacturers. It will also encourage manufacturers to emphasize more on the AMT technology and similar developments.
Though the impact on the industry is minimal as they have already started working on BS-IV technology way back, still a typical automaker keeps 4-6 weeks inventory while at dealer’s end, this adds up to 2-4 weeks more before finally getting registered in 4-6 weeks. So this needs to be cleared in order to minimize the impact. It would definitely be interesting to see the role of the price hike on upcoming sales chart.
Indian automotive industry is moving towards greener regulatory norms and in this respect, the government has already cleared their stance to skip the BS-V standard and jump directly to BS-VI emission standard in the year 2020.
