POS Malaysia Places Order for More than 500 Tata Xenon Pick-up Trucks

Published On Apr 29, 2016By Prashant Talreja

India's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, Tata Motors, has received an order for 553 Tata Xenon Single Cab 4×2 pick-up trucks from the Malaysian postal service provider, POS Malaysia Berhad (POS Malaysia). Tata Motors will build specially designed Xenon Pick-ups, which can cater to all the logistic needs of POS Malaysia.

This Malaysia-bound pick-up will be powered by a 2.2-litre CRDi diesel engine that comes integrated with a turbocharger. This power plant can churn out maximum power of 138 bhp at 4000 rpm and yield a hammering 320 Nm of maximum torque between 1700 to 2700 rpm. Its transmission duties are handled by a conventional 5-speed manual transmission gearbox.

The Tata Xenon pick-up truck will be equipped with features including reverse camera that aids driver while parking in tight corners. This pickup also has a strong body structure and chassis frame that can accommodate heavy loads.

“The Tata Xenon is a proven performer that can be customized for various applications delivering sustained value to customers. Manufactured by our subsidiary company Tata Motors (Thailand), the delivery of Tata Xenon to POS Malaysia is an important milestone in Tata Motors continued expansion in Malaysia and ASEAN region, and as a major player in the region we at Tata Motors are committed to shape the commercial vehicle industry here backed with the trusted credentials of the Tata Motors brand”, said Rudrarup Maitra, head of international business, Commercial Vehicles, at Tata Motors.

In Malaysia, all the commercial vehicles of Tata Motors including Xenon Pick-up trucks will be distributed exclusively by DRB-HICOM Commercial Vehicles (DHCV). In the year 2015, POS Malaysia leased Xenon Pick-ups from DHCV leasing service for about 36 months. Higher worker productivity, lower ownership cost and lower upfront capex are the factors that led POS Malaysia to opt for operating lease in the recent years as against outright purchase.
