Trucks in the heavy-duty and last-mile delivery segments registered higher demand in the month
The top truck brands published their monthly wholesale numbers (vehicles shipped to their dealers) of overall commercial vehicle sales for October ’2022. And the numbers look like a mixed back for all the major Truck OEMs.
Market leader Tata Motors' overall domestic commercial vehicle was flat in the month, with a volume of 31,320 units. This includes the M&HCV 9,860 units (+29%. The Intermediate and light commercial vehicle segment 4,083 units (-27%), and the small commercial vehicles including pickups and mini-truck declined by 8% to 15,618 units. The commercial passenger carrier grew by 84% to 1,759 units.

Ashok Leyland recorded double-digit growth in overall domestic sales in the month with total shipments to dealers of 13,860 units up by 38%. (October 2021: 10,043 units). The medium and heavy commercial vehicles grew by 56% to 8,189 units, the trucks were up by 49%, and buses by 190%, with 7,432 units and 757 units, respectively. The light truck inclusive of Dost+, Bada Dost, and Partner increased by 18% to 5,671 units. (October 2021: 4,993). The total domestic cumulative sales stand at 93,499 units against 51,909 units in the same period last year (+80%).
Mahindra & Mahindra’s total commercial vehicle dispatches for the month stood at 20,988 units. The light commercial vehicle segments of less than 2 tonnes 4,562 units (+44%), and the 2-3.5-tonne GVW pickups recorded a growth of 41% with a total volume of 15,728 units. The less than 3.5T, and the heavy commercial vehicle volumes were 690 units. (-5%). The auto-rickshaw sales were up by 44% to 5,081 units.
Eicher Trucks sale's domestic sales were up 3.9% in the month to 5,911 units. (October 2021: 5,689 units). Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses have dispatched 127 units, up by 9.5%.
Maruti Suzuki, India’s top car maker which holds its only commercial vehicle the Super Carry posted a total sale of 2,913 units in the month.
