After being embroiled in controversy for a while, Tata has been swiftly taking strides to bring things back on track. Tata group’s chief designate, N Chandrasekaran, after being appointed as executive chairman of Tata Sons last week, has now been appointed as chairman of Tata Motors.
The announcement was made via a regulatory filing through which the company said “the Board of Directors have today appointed Natarajan Chandrasekaran as additional director and Chairman of the board with immediate effect.”
Fondly known as ‘Chandra’ among corporate circles, N Chandrasekaran has been with the Tata Group since 1987. In 2009, he was appointed as the CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), prior to which he was the COO and executive director of TCS. Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran has been responsible for several key transitions at the global software company since 2002 when he took over the position as the head of global sales.
The new chairman will have to deal with a huge product program across its passenger and commercial vehicle segments. Tata Motors has recently roped in bollywood star Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador for its range of commercial vehicles and has also launched the Tata Xenon Yodha pickup truck as part of fighting competition from other brands in the small commercial vehicle segment.
The commercial vehicle maker is also going strong on social media this year and has launched several videos with the brand ambassador showcasing Tata’s range of products in the cargo segment.
