Mercedes-Benz plans 500 million Euro investment to advance their market share in Brazil

Published On Oct 16, 2015By Lisa Pradhan

Mercedes-Benz is a dominant marque in the CV sectors of South American territories such as Brazil and Argentina. Their subsidiary in Brazil has been a focus for manufacturing and export in that region. In an upcoming event called the 'Mercedes-Benz Solution Week' in the Brazilian city of Sao Bernardo do Campo, the brand plans to showcase new products built locally. Models such as the Accelo, Atego, Axor and Actros were specially targeted for the demands of the country and its varying topography. The company had ensured that the portfolio offered for the local market was optimized to meet customer demands of comfort, fuel consumption and total cost of ownership. It currently has its sight on strengthening its market dominance in the region by improving its services and developing new products.

“Brazil is and remains one of the world’s most important commercial vehicle markets in the long term”, said Stefan Buchner, the head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks. He goes on to say, “In this period of market weakness it is important to set the right guideposts for the time when the market kicks in again. That is why we are investing around 500 million Euro in our products and innovative technologies, as well as in the optimization of our production network by 2018.”

These new products are a result of concrete investments that the company had made earlier to assert its position in the country. A fresh investment of 500 million Euros is now targeted for the phase of 2014 to 2018. This will be utilized in upgrading its products, advancing its technologies and improving its service sector. The three pointed star is registered as the most commonly used commercial vehicle in the country. There have been 26,300 new vehicles from the brand since the dawn of the year. In addition to this, the company saw its market share grow to a sizeable 26.3% as of August, despite an intensely rough market condition. Philipp Schiemer, President of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil and CEO of Daimler Trucks Latin America: “In the coming year, we will celebrate our 60th anniversary in the country. As always, we are listening to our customers and offer them commercial vehicles from Mercedes-Benz that are fitted to the special local market requirements: Made in Brazil for Brazil.”
