Published On Mar 30, 2016By Prashant Talreja

Mercedes-Benz recently launched the dual control Econic model in Melbourne recently. The truck has been designed with a special application purpose, and will be employed in the waste industry. The machine is armed with a 7.7-litre diesel engine with 299 hp power. The train has been formatted to meet the Euro VI emission norms, and delivers a significantly cleaner and more economic ride. The engine is incorporated along with a six-speed Allison fully automatic transmission.

On the safety front, the vehicle features multiple strong safety programs, ranging from the Electronic Stability Program, the Electronic Braking System and the conventional Anti-Lock Braking System all available as standard fitment. Apart from this, a slew of optional facilities are also present, such as adaptive cruise control, Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. All axles of the chassis have been secured with a reliable air-based suspension system that prevents loss of handling. The company has designed the cabin according to European ECE-R29 crash test regulations, with large panoramic windows for sound visibility, and a suspended driver's seat on both sides of the cabin.

At the launch of the vehicle, Mercedes-Benz showcased the truck and its various aspects to top leaders in the waste industry. “The launch of the dual control Econic represents a win all round for operators, drivers and the public,” said Andrew Assimo, sales manager for Mercedes-Benz Trucks. He added, “The Euro VI engine is efficient and produces low emissions, but it is quiet in operation too.”

Mr Assimo highlighted some other essential elements of the model. “High levels of safety are a big plus for everyone, especially the driver who also benefits from great ergonomics. There is also the superior vision of this truck, which is of utmost importance given the mixture of pedestrians, cyclists and cars in the urban environments most Econics will operate,” Mr Assimo said.
