Mahindra Truxo 37 or Tata LPT 3723: Which truck will you prefer?

Published On Jul 04, 2016By Lisa Pradhan

The two most popular brands in the Indian commercial vehicle industry, Tata and Mahindra, have been credited with some of the best products in the market. Two of the brands’ trusted trucks, Mahindra Truxo 37 and Tata LPT 3723, have garnered a lot of popularity since they were launched, and are currently trending in the commercial vehicle industry. With competitive pricing (Mahindra Truxo 37 has an ex-showroom price of INR 26 lakh and Tata LPT 3723 is priced from INR 25.5 lakh, both ex-showroom) and similarity in vehicle specs, both the trucks are close rivals of each other.

Mahindra Truxo 37 is powered by an M-Power 7.2 liter TCIC engine complying with BS-III emission norms and has a displacement of 7200 cc. Whereas Tata LPT 3723 is equipped with the proven Cummins B5.9 215 30 engine that also complies with BS-III emission norms but has a displacement of 5883 cc. Mahindra Truxo 37 boasts of a more powerful engine, generating higher torque at lower rpm (820Nm @ 1050rpm) as compared to Tata LPT 3723 (800Nm @ 1400-1700rpm), thus improving the former truck’s capability to carry higher loads at a lower speed more efficiently as compared to the latter one.

However, LPT 3723 has a 9-speed gearbox, thus ensuring a higher range of rpm. This vehicle has a higher fuel tank capacity (400 litres) as compared to that of Mahindra Truxo 37 (350 litres). Truxo 37 has a slightly higher turning radius (11000 mm) and lower wheelbase (6100 mm ) than LPT 3723 (turning radius-10950 mm and wheelbase 6255 mm). Thus, LPT 3723 provides better maneuverability around turns and bends and ensures a better vehicle road-contact. Furthermore, the max speed of the Mahindra truck (73 km/hr) is way lower than the Tata truck (94 km/hr).

Talking about the similarities, the ground clearance and GVW of both the vehicles are almost the same. Both the trucks also come with air brakes, good suspension and standard safety features.
