Mahindra, one of the leading commercial vehicle makers in India, recently started the 10th batch of its much celebrated program, Mahindra MPOWER, at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA). A management development program designed for next-gen youth transport entrepreneurs, this batch, started on August 13, witnessed 32 young participants from families owning some of the finest transport companies in India. It is a 7-day residential program at IIMA and the first in the industry.

The company’s main objective behind this program is to empower the next generation of India’s transporters/fleet owners so that they can skilfully and efficiently “take forward their family business with their own vision.” The signature initiative from Mahindra, the MPOWER program is growing from strength to strength, making the organizers hopeful that this will bring in positive change in Indian transport industry.

The 10th batch has already checked-in for the seven days course at the IIMA campus. The course has bee specifically constructed for the transportation sector with a focus on the current issues plaguing the industry. The program, run by seven highly accomplished faculty members of IIMA, will incorporate subjects on professionalism, business planning, market & segments, HR practices, service quality, financial management and accounting, supply chain management, legal and regulatory and information technology. The course will also contain industry focused sessions for better grasp on the commercial vehicle market.

The participants, chosen by invitation, came from 17 cities across India, owned over 3,351 trucks and catered to 26 load segments/applications (including dry bulk, parcel, FMCG, electronics, finished vehicles transportation, cold chain logistic and warehousing), generating a cumulative turnover of INR 2,530 crores.

The current batch has also indirectly involved 278 next-gen transporters who together own over 57,300 trucks and utilize another 50 percent of the number from the market. Thus, employing over 62,900 people and bringing in a combined turnover of INR 23,250 crores.

The MPOWER program was first launched on the sidelines of the Mahindra Transport Excellence Award on January 9, 2013 by Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Since then, the program has been a huge success, helping build an emotional connect of the company with next-gen transporters. This has further helped Mahindra in highlighting its products and services apart from leading to a successful business collaboration with the attendees.
