Top Truck brands reported higher growth in the overall wholesale truck shipments in the month, pointing towards a strong recovery in the CV industry.
Top domestic truck brands including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Eicher Trucks, and Mahindra & Mahindra have reported their wholesale numbers for the month of June 22. The overall sales trend looks highly encouraging for all the brands witnessing stupendous growth across key truck segments. June wholesale numbers point towards a sharp recovery for the industry which is eyeing the pre-pandemic sale level.
The strong growth in June wholesale number underlines a rebound taking place in the Indian economy which is fueling the demand for trucks. The industry now anticipates the momentum to continue over the coming months with an expectation of closing the fiscal year on a high sales note.

We take a look at the number in the month of June to tell the break-up of each brand.
The market leader Tata Motors' overall domestic commercial vehicle sales grew by a strong 76% to 34,409 units in the month. (June 2021: 19,594 units). The M&HCV truck category grew by 75% to 9,191 units.(June 2021: 5,243 units). The ILCV sale increased by 69% with a total sale of 4,718 units, the cargo SCVs and pickups registered a strong uptick of 57% to 16,632 units. The commercial passenger carrier increased by 310% to 3,868 units.
Ashok Leyland’s domestic sales jumped 130% to 13, 469 units. (June 2021: 5,851 units). The M&HCVs sales were up by 255% to 8,399 units, the trucks sale up by 241%, and buses by 563%, selling 7,703 units and 696 units, respectively. The LCVs grew by 45% to 5,070 units (June 2021: 3,487). The total domestic sales cumulative is 37,124 units against the same period last year of 16,550 (+124%).
Mahindra & Mahindra too registered good sales in the month of June by recording a total commercial vehicle sales of sold 20,431 vehicles across all the top categories of trucks. The light commercial vehicle segments of less than 2 tonnes sold 3,410 units (+28%), Pickups 2-3.5-tonne 16, 405 units (+69%) and less than 3.5T, and the heavy commercial vehicles 616 units up by 78%. The firm sold a total of 4008 units of three-wheeler registering a strong 434% growth in the category.
Eicher Trucks domestic up by 217% in the month; the company sold 5,584 units in the domestic market. (June 2021: 1,760 units). The domestic sales for the April-June period registered a growth of 287% to 3,971 units.
