Indian Celebrities to Drive BharatBenz Trucks on India's Deadliest Roads

Published On Oct 19, 2016By Mukul Yudhveer Singh

We see trucks almost every day and yet never give them the importance and respect they deserve. It would not be wrong to say that trucks are a part of our lives in one way or the other. Truck drivers have to maneuver these monstrous vehicles on the narrowest of roads, guide these machines around the toughest of corners and ride them on some of the highest routes in the world. In short, a truckers life is full of risks that many a times can, and have, proved life threatening. Despite all these facts our society has always overlooked the sacrifices a trucker makes in his/her life.

History TV has been trying to change this perception with a show series which showcases the uncertainties a person faces in his career as a truck driver. Popularly known as Ice Road Truckers-India's Deadliest Roads, the current series of the show will feature actress Mandira Bedi, actor Varun Sharma and wrestler Sangram Singh as truck drivers. The trio will take on the mightiest roads in India and ride BharatBenz MD IN-Power 1214 trucks. The three celebrities will be required to transport essential commodities to villages located on Leh-Ladakh, Nubra and Pangong lake routes.

The series, ‘Ice Road Truckers-India’s Deadliest Roads’, documents the daring and difficult conditions that truckers face while driving at these heights. The participants were trained in Chennai and Manali to drive the trucks on different terrains and also get familiar to the features of the truck, to help them during the course of the thrilling expedition.

BharatBenz 1214 is from the recently launched new generation of medium duty trucks offered by the CV manufacturer. The contemporary styled truck has the Multi Drive Mode (MDM) which allows drivers to optimize engine settings either for urban traffic or highway trucking with the push of a button.

The earlier version of the show had featured Alex Debogorski, Rick Yemm, and Lisa Kelly taking on the mighty Himalayan roads in October 2010. The current series is expected to bring respect to the truck driving profession and also educate people with the dangers a truck driver faces in his/her profession.
