Tata's powerful engine options and feature-laden cabin has made its pickup truck offering quite popular in the commercial pickup segment in the country. Ever since the introduction of Tata 407, the company has constantly been working on improving its commercial vehicle lineup and with the new Yodha 1500, it looks like the Indian automaker has managed to do exactly that. For those who are looking for a commercial pickup truck here are some reasons why Tata Yodha 1500 might be exactly what you are looking for.

Load Body Dimensions

Tata Yodha load body is 2550 mm long and 1750 mm wide and offers a total loading area of 4.5 square metre which happens to be the best in the segment.

Cost and Running Economics

In terms of fuel economy, Tata Yodha also gets the segment best mileage which stands at 14 kmpl and the same stat is shared with Maha Bolero 1.7T. However, when it comes to rated load, Tata Yodha is limited to 1.5 ton whereas there are other offerings in the segment that can carry a more passing payload. Yodha manages to make up for this with its torquier engine which produces 215 Nm of peak torque that comes in handy when tackling hilly terrain. Another segment-best feature of Tata Yodha is its service interval which is fixed at 20,000 kilometres.

Warranty and price

Tata Yodha gets an attractive 3 year or 300,000 km warranty which is particularly important in BS4 pickup trucks because, in case of an ICU malfunction, a replacement unit would be quite expensive. Tata also offers Yodha with an attractive price tag of Rs. 6.7 lacs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) which is quite competitive in the segment

Engine and gearbox

Like mentioned before, Tata Yodha gets a 250 Nm torque engine which produces 85 BHP of power out of a 3.0-litre four-cylinder unit. This is a time and tested motor which has been in production ever since the introduction of Tata 407 pickup truck and has proven to be quite reliable in the market. Customer reviews report that the 3.0-litre motor, which was first introduced in 407 and is now offered in Tata Yodha is good for 300,000 kms. Tata Yodha also gets a 260 mm diameter clutch which enhances the life of the unit even further.

Chassis and suspension

Tata Yodha features a tubular chassis which comes with reinforcements between the cabin and load body. Suspension duties in Tata Yodha are taken on by semi-elliptic leaf springs both at the front as well as at the rear of the pickup. Tata Yodha also gets an LFL propeller shaft which does not require any lubrication and the pickup truck offers a very impressive 210 mm ground clearance.

Interior and features

Tata Yodha’s cabin comes with impressive soundproofing which manages to reduce engine and road noise very well. The interior design is quite similar to that seen in the Tata Xenon and gets features like tilt and telescopic steering wheel, tachometer, reclining bucket seats, flatbed co-driver seats, 12-volt charger, bottle holders, etc. Since Tata Yodha is also sold internationally in countries like Thailand and Chile, the pickup truck’s cabin has been crash tested and adheres to international standards of safety
