Eicher Ventures into sub 5-tonne LCV segment with Eicher Pro 1049

India's popular commercial vehicle manufacturer, Eicher Trucks & Buses has launched Eicher Pro 1049 truck in the country's LCV market. This marks Eicher's entry into the sub 5-tonne commercial vehicle category in India. This latest truck belongs to the company's Pro 1000 series family and comes with 10 ft long cargo body. It has a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 4.9 tonne, which is highest in its segment. Eicher claims that the new Pro 1049 is powerful, spacious and most fuel efficient mini truck, which is designed to fulfill the needs of urban and rural transport requirements. Eicher is offering this mini truck with an unmatched 3-years warranty on engine and gearbox, without restrictions on kilometer run. In addition to this, it comes with unlimited (kilometers) warranty for 1 year.
“The Light and Medium Duty Segment in the commercial vehicle industry, especially in the sub 5T category has great potential to grow as it addresses the critical last mile connectivity and distribution network in rural, semi-urban & urban areas. In 2015, market size of 3.5T- 5T LMD segment stands at 8080 units and the growth in this segment looks very promising,” said Mr. Shyam Maller, Senior Vice President at VE Commercial Vehicles.
Powering the Eicher Pro 1049 mini truck is an E483 4-cylinder engine that comes in BSIII and BSIV versions. This power plant churns out 95 bhp of maximum power and 285 Nm of hammering torque (300Nm in BSIV version). Its transmission duties are handled by a conventional 5 speed manual gearbox that is integrated with hybrid GSL technology.
Reports suggest that Eicher is currently working on developing a CNG powered engine for the Pro 1049 mini truck for Delhi and NCR region. Designed and developed locally in India, this mini truck will be available for sale in a price range of 6-7 lakh and 7-8 lakh for Cab-Chassis and Deck-body versions respectively with all the authorized dealers of Eicher.
