Eicher Polaris Multix: A Multipurpose Vehicle

A vehicle built to address the different requirements of family, business and power, Eicher Polaris Multix is a multipurpose vehicle, and the first of its kind on the road. The 3-in-1 vehicle is the result of a 50:50 joint venture between Eicher Motors and Polaris Industries. Ex-showroom prices of Eicher Polaris Multix start from INR 2.4 lakh.
Touted as the country’s first personal utility vehicle, the five-seater Multix is available in two variants – AX+ and MX. The vehicle is meant for independent businessmen such as electricians, carpenters, shop owners, vegetable/fruit vendors, etc. who require to move goods and commodities on a regular basis. Registering a fuel efficiency of 28.45 kmpl, running costs of Multix are comparable to that of a motorcycle.
Feature wise, this vehicle is a one stop solution for medium sized families, combining personal and business needs alike. Comfortably seating a family of five, the vehicle has been built to protect against impact, thus guaranteeing the safety of your loved ones and your valuable cargo.
With a GVW of 1150 kg, Multix also provides the option of accommodating more volume of goods by removing the rear glass and folding the seats back in just three minutes, thus instantly amplifying the 418 litres of storage area to 1,918 litres.
Mounted at the rear, the 510 cc, single-cylinder, BS-III compliant, water-cooled diesel engine is coupled with a manual transmission and a 4-speed gearbox. With good engine outputs of 9.92 bhp @ 3,000 rpm and 27.1 Nm torque @ 1400-2200 rpm, Multix also has an optional ‘X-Port’ mounted on the transmission that generates up to three kilowatts of power (enough for homes, music systems, water pumps, agricultural machinery and other emergency equipment).
The multiple utilities of Eicher Polaris Multix will certainly give it an edge over other vehicles in the market. However, the vehicle is set to face tough competition from other competing small commercial vehicles such as Mahindra Maximo and Mahindra Jeeto, which have already carved a loyal customer base in the country.
