BharatBenz 1015R+ Cargo Truck: Product Review

The company has recently added a new variant 1015R+ to its portfolio, thus expanding its medium-duty offering in India. So what is new in this variant? We find out.
To help its customers with more choices and highly efficient truck solutions BharatBenz recently introduced as many as 6 new trucks to the Indian market in several key segments to consolidate its position by addressing vital segments of the cargo industry. One among them is the medium-duty 1015R+ in the 10T intermediate cargo segment, the company already retails the 1015R in the segment. With the new addition of trucks, BharatBenz is trying to address the growing needs of customers in the highly competitive, fast expanding and rapidly evolving intermediate cargo category.
More Power
The first and foremost change that you come across in this new variant is the powerful and more refined engine that now gives you a better combination of power and torque to help you deliver your shipment faster and efficiently no matter what type of cargo you are shipping. Thus, the 1015R+ now get a much-improved powertrain with not just more power but better pickup and overall superior efficiency. While the engine is the same on this truck that of its sibling 1015R, what BharatBenz has done is to re-tune for a greater overall performance that suits some of the urban applications better. The 1015R+ is equipped with the familiar 4D34i engine that produces 150hp of power at 460 Nm of torque but a higher rpm range of 1200-1600.
Another key change is in the gearbox, 1015R+ now gets a new gearbox to make it easier to drive but at the same time, you get better fuel economy to help you earn better revenue every single trip. Here you get the MO36 gearbox with the familiar 6-speed manual gears with a bigger 330 mm of clutch diameter and the clutch is a single dry plate, hydraulic actuated.
Better Dimensions
Likewise, there are tweaks in the truck’s overall dimensions to making it more appealing for certain key cargo applications. In the 1015R+ you get an option of ground clearance, from the earlier 205 mm standards across all variants, here you have a choice of 175 mm. However, you’ll continue to get as many as five different lengths of cargo bodies starting from 14.6ft to 21ft.
The optimized powertrain has added nearly 100 kg of additional weight to this truck, the 1015R+ is now 10700 kg of gross weight. The 1015R+ now get a considerably higher gradeability of 37.6% that means the truck is capable of climbing steep terrain or fly-overs in the city comfortably. The 1015R+ like its sibling is a highly capable truck that can take on multiple cargo applications across cities and towns.
What is Unchanged?
BharatBenz has kept the key aggregates on this medium-duty truck unchanged where you get the multi-leaf spring suspensions to remain, the service brake comes in full air s-cam, dual-circuit type and parking brake in spring-actuated with hand brake. Then the BharatBenz’a signature factory-fitted day cabin is equipped with segment-best safety features such as seatbelt reminder, demister, daytime running lights, reverse parking assistance and rear camera. To ensure truck productivity by comfort features including heating and ventilation, music system, power windows, central locking, static steering and tilt and telescopic steering among others.
