Auto Expo 2016: Mega Auto Event Comes to an End
Published On Feb 10, 2016
Auto Expo 2016, the gala auto extravaganza conducted biennially, came to an end yesterday. The event was a roaring success as 65 auto manufacturers enthralled over six lakh auto enthusiasts with their products from all across the globe. Apart from exciting product displays, new technologies earmarked the commitment of CV makers towards a greener and cleaner environment.
Over 108 product launches and unveilings captivated automobile fans over a span of five days. A few pavilions also featured works from leading institutes of the country such as the IITs and IIMs. February 3 and 4 were media-only days and saw the maximum frenzy with new investments, exciting launches, concepts and intelligent technologies unveiled by global CEOs.
Some of the major launches in the commercial vehicle pavilions were the Signa range from Tata Motors, Blazo range from Mahindra, and several hybrid and electric buses. Major participants in the commercial vehicle arena included Tata Motors, Eicher, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, and Scania.
Auto Expo 2016 experienced much more footfalls than the one conducted in 2014 (5.6 lakh footfalls). The recently concluded event also witnessed its share of glamour with prominent Bollywood stars and cricketers such as Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee, Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Virat Kohli, Piyush Chawla and former cricket legend Mohinder Amarnath marking their presence.
However, a few prominent players in the automobile industry such as Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) and Bajaj Auto gave the auto expo a miss citing high costs and low returns on investments.
The expo was organized jointly by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Auto Expo 2016 was inaugurated on February 5th by heavy industries minister Anant Geete and transport minister Nitin Gadkari at Greater Noida.
