Ashok Leyland posts 12% Sales growth in March 2017

The last fiscal year ended with a positive note for some of the commercial vehicle manufacturers in the country. One of the fortunate ones being Chennai based automaker Ashok Leyland, posting an overall 12 percent increment in its sales in the month of March as compared to previous year same month.

The March sales with respect to heavy and medium CV stood at 15,258 units, compared to 13,240 units in March 2016, a good 15 percent increase. However, as per the light commercial vehicles, sales saw a marginal decline of 1 percent at 3,424 units, against 3,462 in last year March.

Total sales for the entire fiscal were up by 3 percent which was 1,45,066 units in comparison to 1,40,457 in the corresponding month last year. Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles did a nice contribution registering 1,13,296 units against 1,09,762 units in last fiscal year, an increase of 3 percent. While on the other hand, light and commercial vehicles despite of marginal decline in March sales, scored some brownie points when it comes to total sales in a year. With 4 percent increment, the segment recorded 31,770 units as against 30,695 units a year before.

Commenting on the BS-III ban, MD Vinod K Dasari, Ashok Leyland CEO did raised concern about the unexpected impact but at the same time, stated that company is making every possible effort to reduce the impact.
