Ashok Leyland Partners with Saab to Devise Truck Simulators

Indian truck manufacturer Ashok Leyland has joined forces with the Sweden based defense and aero-space company Saab to develop truck simulators in India. With government pushing forward the 'Make In India' initiative and a new ease of norms in defense sector, overseas companies are looking towards India as their manufacturing hub. Both Ashok Leyland and Saab have already signed a teaming agreement in this regard last year.
According to the press release by Saab, the simulator will come integrated with the Saab's technology and it will be placed in the original Ashok Leyland truck's cabin. As per the sources, the simulator has been devised based on Ashok Leyland Stallion 4x4 vehicle, which is currently performing duties for the Indian paramilitary and armed forces. This enables the driver to maneuver the vehicle on rugged terrains irrespective of weather conditions.
Like said above, the simulator developed by the duo comprises of an Ashok Leyland Stallion's cabin with motion based actuality and a computer featuring 4K graphic visualization. Furthermore, the simulator also comes integrated with an instructor operating station that aids instructor to monitor and interact with the trainee in real time. This eventually helps the instructor to take control in emergency situations and enables him to provide feedback to the trainee.
"Simulator-based training is the best way to develop handling skills without putting the vehicle fleet, trainees or environment at risk. With the agreement between Saab and Ashok Leyland this is now available also for the Ashok Leyland Stallion", said Jan Widernstrm, managing director and chairman at Saab India Technologies.
On the other hand, Nitin Seth, president of defense system at Ashok Leyland has expressed his happiness over the partnership with the Swedish based Saab in their pursuit to develop truck driving simulators. He also foresees a great opportunity here in India and in the overseas market as well.
