Ashok Leyland October sales down 35%

While the truck sales remain under stress due to broader slowdown in the market, the month-on-month sales points towards a partial revival in demand
India’s second largest medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle (M&HCV) maker, Ashok Leyland today reported a drop of 35% in overall CV sales for the month of October 2019. The company sold a total of 9,857 units in the domestic and export markets. (October 2018:15,149 units)
While the year-on-year drop in the overall sales indicates the continuous pressure in the broader CV market, however, the month-on-month sales points a partial recovery as the sales has regained from the higher 55% and 47% decline recorded in the month of September and August 2019 respectively to 35% in the October.
In the domestic market, Ashok Leyland sold a told of 9,074 units in the months down by 37% (October '18: 14,341 units). The total M&HCVs dip by 50%, as the trucks segment continue remains under pressure which has plunged 59% selling 3,335 units, while the buses segment grew strong 31% with sale of 1230 units. The company’s LCV segment recorded a sale of 4,509 units, down 15%. (October 2018:5,279 units).
Ashok Leyland’s cumulative sales for the fiscal down by 28% to 78,401 units.
