Ashok Leyland Guru – The Next Gen Light Truck

Published On Feb 24, 2016By Prashant Talreja

Being one of the top two commercial vehicle manufacturers in India, Ashok Leyland generated high anticipation at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2016. The Indian auto maker fulfilled expectations with the launch of quite a few next-gen buses, India’s first Euro 6 truck 4940 and a light weight truck Guru.

The company already has a large fleet of trucks and the latest launches have made it more flexible for buyers. Talking about the Guru, this truck has been developed for relatively smaller needs and for near-to-city areas. With this truck, Ashok Leyland promises to deliver much more than other vehicles in its class.

Overview

Ditching all the old design theories that mostly gave weight carrying capacity (GVW) an upper hand over comfort and other features, Ashok Leyland Guru is luxury on wheels, promising safety, security and convenience. Although GVW is still a priority, but now there also are provisions for more driver comfort and ride leisure.

Equipped with the latest H Series engine with UPCRS system, Guru provides top notch power with best-in-class fuel efficiency. It has decent load carrying capacity with high quality suspensions to ensure a bump free ride on rugged roads. The vehicle is loaded with several other unique features such as best-in-class payload and high reliability on the roads, thus ensuring lowest cost of ownership and operation.

Features

When it comes to comfort and convenience, Guru has changed the scenario completely for commercial vehicle buyers in the lightweight category. This new generation truck has suspended cabin, cable shift gear system for ease, minimal blind spot positioned driver seat and power steering with tilt and telescopic movement.

The safety has also been taken care off very well with locking provision for battery and fuel tank along with an isolator switch in case of electrical malfunctioning. Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Air service brakes ensure shorter driving distance with load full to the vehicle’s capacity.

The comfort level quotient is also very high with sleeper cabin in a day cabin, factory fitted music system and large overall space. Guru’s aesthetics are too based on modern day design pattern with required aerodynamic shape and LED tail light. Asymmetric front panel styling and interior aesthetics lend final touches to the vehicle.

Conclusion

Overall, Ashok Leyland Guru is a truck with market changing capabilities in light commercial vehicle segment with newly introduced design and interior comforts. It could be a tough competitor for other leading trucks in the segment like Tata 407 and is surely a product to watch out for in the near future.
