Ashok Leyland Appoints Sheshu Bhagavathula as Chief Technology Officer

India's second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, Ashok Leyland has appointed former Daimler official, Mr. Sheshu Bhagavthula as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). It took almost three years for the Chennai-based commercial vehicle maker to revive the position of Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Sheshu Bhagavathula, a Ph.D holder from the University of Stuttgart, has spearheaded the technology division of Daimler and other original equipment makers (OEMs) in the automotive sector.
Mr. Bhagavathula with take charge as the head of the technology division at Ashok Leyland and will work with team leaders in reviving the technology to global standards. He will be mentoring the entire team of engineers and technicians at Ashok Leyland.
The Chennai-based commercial vehicle manufacturer is currently stretching its business reach across Asia and African regions. This appointment will certainly help Ashok Leyland in its pursuit to stretch its market beyond Asia and Africa.
In the recent times, Ashok Leyland has reported that its surging export volumes are exceeding expectations. One of the company's top executives, Mr. Gopal Mahadevan, also said last year that global sales have contributed about 15 percent of the company's overall sales. The company is expecting to raise this number to about 30 percent in the next couple of years.
According to the India Ratings and Research Private Limited, the commercial vehicle market in India will witness a growth of around 5 to 10 percent in the financial year 2016-2017. The research and ratings firm expects capacity utilization level for the commercial vehicle in this fiscal year could be as low as 53 to 55 percent. It estimates barricades for the industry with low utilization levels in spite of high sales volumes.
