As per the retail sale data of FADA, we rank top truck brands with the highest sales and market share in the month.
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) released Vehicle Retail Data for July’22. FADA says on a year-on-year basis, total vehicle retail for the month of July’22 drops by 8%, the good news is that the three-wheeler (+80%) and commercial vehicle (+27%) segments recorded growth while two-wheeler, passenger vehicles and tractors sales declined by -11%, -5% and -28% respectively.
The retail sales were impacted by erratic monsoon across most of the states. While west, central, and south India majorly faced excess rainfall, Gangetic plains and eastern India witnessed deficient rainfall.
The July’22 data points towards continued demand for commercial vehicles. The total retail sale of commercial vehicles stands at 66,459 units, up by 27% (July 21:52,197 units). The break-up was LCV : 41,077, MCV:4,421 and HCV: 18,18i units, growing 17.5%, 53.2%, 60.2%, respectively.

Ashok Leyland emerged as the third-largest player in the month by selling 9,785 units, taking 14.72 % of the market share. As demand for its AVTR modular truck in the HCV category gained traction among customers.
Commenting on how July’22 performed, FADA President, Vinkesh Gulati said, “Continuing with our quest for a deeper insight in Auto Retail figures, FADA for the first time has released 3W sub-segment retail figures. After the breakup of the CV segment, the 3W sub-segmentation will help all the stakeholders understand the 3W market in much detail.
“Auto Retail for the month of July’22 fell by -8%. July is generally considered a lean month before the festival season hits in August. When compared with July’19, a pre-covid month, total vehicle retails fell by -20%. PV and Trac continued to outperform by growing 19% and 7%. All the other categories were in red with 2W, 3W and CV falling by -28%, -15% and -4% respectively”, he elaborated.
